Steely monday at Split Rock

Post by nwhavnbill »

After reading Crazy Ivan saying that north of walons have produced early frostbite action I dicided to head up and give it a shot. After passing splitrock around 2pm
I missed a 16 to 18" silver at the boat. Damm!! I was siked just to hook into someting after a month of slow reports. So I head north sticking to about 100 to 150fow along walons shore line and about 1/8mile south of cannon pt one rod went screaming straight down! Picked it up and the fish went sceaming staight up out of the water like a tarpon! 5lbs of steel when i finally landed it after jumping about 8 times( I was shocked how much energy the fish had so late in the summer) I also caught 4- 13" salmon that went back safely. Now here is the kicker ALL Fish were caught 18 to 22ft down!50ft back. Temps were 53 at 60ft. Colors were Blue silver speedy and crazy ivan wahlon green.
Thankyou todd for the for the input! I will try to post a picture later.
FISH on......

Nice job out there, as you said, after so many slow reports. Haven't been out in a few weeks, hope to get out there this weekend finally.

Thanks for the report. It is very useful to know the fishing conditions before, as I have 1.5 to 2 hour ride getting down to Champlain. I love to fish, but spending time and $$ when fishing conditions are below average is not my style.
I vividly read all the reports, and learn a lot from them. I wish I could post more often, but in order to do that, I need to get to the water. I hope in a few weeks bitting will get better and I will be able to make it to Champlain more often.

What a difference a day makes after the slow weekend many reported. Nice fish bill! Sounds like conditions are stabilizing again after some tough debris, mud, and water temps. all over the place from the last two weeks.

Some great strategy shared here as with the water temp's cooling the steel shouldn't be as deep as evidenced here. Just awesome bill!
