Salmon Hole 9/11
I've been hitting the Salmon Hole for a few hours the past 2 days, so today I had high hopes when I noticed the water dropped quite a bit, even though it's still high the waters clearing up. Plus fishing for a few hours gave me a good excuse to use my new Simms vest and new rubber net.
Went down around 10 A.M with my usual setup, two rods, one for cawler/eggs/minnows, and the other for lures. Water was still a little stained. Made my way to the point thanks to the incredible amount of debris covering the rocks I usually climb over as seen here.
Hopefully the next high water washed it away, although it looks pretty sturdy...may become a hindrance, so I'll probably have to throw it all into the water bit by bit. After sifting through the small bass that kept nailing my crawlers, I threw spinners, spoons, rainbow Rapala's, eggs...nothing.
1 PM rolls around, saw about 5 people come and fish around the Salmon hole that came and went, even a father and son duo that braved the treacherous pile of trees to get to the point. I was about 10 minutes into drifting a crawler through the fast water, and right as I'm about to reel it up I get a take, straight into the rapids it was headed...I knew it had to be a Salmon or Steelhead. He was intent on heading down into the rapids, so I palmed my spool and managed to turn his head around. Scaled down the side of the rock and he was into the net after a few runs that made my drag scream. Hook popped right out after he was in the net...lucky!
Not too big, around 17 or 18". No lamprey marks, took a quick picture and he was back into the water to fight another day.
More reports coming later in the week! ;D

Great job Matt. I'm sure we'll see lots of reports from you in the near future. Hopefully the rivers cooperate for fishing as I'm quite sure they're loaded with fish right now.
Excellent pic of that netted Landlocked!
Good luck Tuesday...keep us posted!

Cracks me up that I don't even fish for this type of fish but I get excited every time I see that you have a new report from the salmon hole Looking forward to more as the season progresses!
Oh and nice pic...I like the way the net shadow is on the fish.

Re: Salmon Hole 9/11
Had a great time today in the rain, I tried out my new North Face rain jacket I bought last night...stayed dry besides my shorts all day, also saw some Salmon being trapped...no luck besides a small Brown, but I'll be back down for a 3-day fish festival starting tomorrow. Thanks everyone.
