9/20/2018 well it was kind of a dissapointing day for me today as chawk made the trip to go back into a adirondack pond with me . i chose to fish the easy side of the pond but the shallow side and my feelings after we should have chosen the deeper side since its still a little warm and as the morning went on trout stopped surfacing and biting although we did have a few bumps. the hike was 1.4 miles and on the way in jeff said i think 1.4 miles in is wrong its 10 miles.     it got a little warm even at 7 am. a great trail and mostly level to. anyhow we had a great time and shared fishing stories . tommorrow is a wind warning and jeff chose to stay another night and we wont know if were going to hit a trout pond or vt for some walleye and pan fish action. jeff i had good time today and thanks for showing me how to post from my camera will try it soon.

9/22/22/2018 hit a high peak trout pond this morning for some brookie action and maybe get lucky and land a nice wild brown. started fishing at 7:25 am with the bite steady all morning but nothing over 8 inches. missed a few and got hung up a few times in this very windy morning. just as i was getting ready to pick up my best run of the day and fish on and a nice one thinking brookie all the way when i noticed it busted water it was another round whitefish my 2nd one ever. wow never caught one and now 2 in a week or so. a good looking fish and a good spunky fish.

9/27/2018 hit a pond this morning i havent been to in 40 years and its way up high in the high peaks. started up on a trail at 7 am and got there at 8 am straight up hill and very steep. about half way up i stopped and almost turned around and head back down to the car. but i decided i had to do it and did. when i got to the pond wasnt sure where the best depths were so walked north looking for dark water. found some 3/4 of the way down found nice spot to fish with dark water. fishing with 3 rods on bottom before i got my 2nd one on a run and fish on i land a nice male brookie. well im not going to keep any suspense because the bite never stopped for the next 3 hours had to fish with 2 rods and sometimes 1. they were just hammering my dillies and sometimes before it hit bottom. what a wild morning all were over 10 inches to 13 nothing smaller. ran out dillies 5 packs and 3 packs of eagle claw snell hooks because i was cutting the snells and releasing the fish in the water. hope they survive and i think they will. i stopped counting at 20 at 9 am. ended up keeping my limit of 5 . tried to release all the females. just thinking to myself thats 75 dillies and 18 hooks . my total catch had to be over 40 brookies. not once did i get a 10 minute break pulled my rods in to eat and drink. this is amazin to say the least. going to try and post pics later if i cant maybe jeff will help again. the way down the mtn was treacherous steep and rocky. took my time and was very careful 1 hour and 25 minutes going down.

9/31/2018 went back up that steep mtn trail again today but this time with my son matt. we had a great day fished 2 spots on the pond and caught approx. 60 brookies fishing from 8:20 am to 5 pm. at 11 am we moved to the other side of the pond to fish and we got a bonus we saw a momma bear and her cub climb a tree to the top to snooze. could have been a 2nd cub but couldn tell much below them because of the leaves. when we left at 5 pm they were still there. we had a great day on this pond . don sawyer on this day brookies were busting water all day. a fisherman with a rubber raft was in there he caught 3 trout which he cooked and ate there. he was trolling. my son is having one of the male brookies mounted by ed barber (reel fun) on here. pictures of the bears are on my camera will try to post them later.ImageImageImageImagehow do you print screen

3.2 acres don. most back woods ponds in the adirondacks are full of trout. these are a easier catch because it was reclaimed and holds only trout. yesterday reminded me of another pond here that holds wild brookies that was reclaimed and brookies bust water all day long . these ponds are a tough hike but well worth it to me when i get a run or a bite i know on the other end is a trout.

What does the state do to reclaim the ponds?

dont know exactly how they do it but they kill everything off and restock with only trout. some of the adirondack ponds that were reclaimed now produce wild trout no restocking every year. i think they were the tupper lake strain brookies to. the pond im fishing up high was reclaimed and is stocked every year or every other but it has to be reproducing in there from what i can tell. whatever is happening in that pond i like it. you earn your trout going up that steep mtn but its very rewarding at least for me.

They use rotenone, a naturally occurring pesticide from plants, to wipe out the fish pop. It is very sensitive to light so it’s toxicity breaks down in less than a week.
