4/27/2018 hit the lake this morning at 7:30 am and had a freind there already home on vacation. walked dwon to talk to him and he was already on his way home with his limit fo 2 salmon also had a badly hooked steelhead that he was upset about keeping it but it was a female and spawned out. he caught them at daylight using a very small silver kastmaster. so i decided to go with a 3/8 ounce krocodile 3/8 ounce blue ice with the sure set hooks. ist hour 0 hits so i moved down to my stone seat. 4 th cast fish on i land a small salmon. the every next cast another hit and a miss. then i went about 20 minutes and fish on i land another small salmon. then i saw a boat coming toward me and around me just as they passed another his fish on and it shook loose this one a nice one. the boat then swung towards me then i realized it was don and traci. (sawyers) we talked awhile they didnt have any hits. so i talked them into some shore casting from there boat. about 10 minutes later had a text from my wife i had to go home. i hope they did well . waiting to hear form them. i wont be posting any salmon pics from that spot unless i decide to keep some because of the spot im fishing.risk hurting them to much so im just netting them an unhooking them in the water.
i went back for some more shore fishing and don and traci were there trolling pulled there stuff in and did some casting from there boat. started casting at 5:50 pm 4th cast and a good hit but a miss. saw some salmon busting water so i moved with don and traci following. had a follow right away but spooked. then a hit and a it shook off . some time later another hit and it shook off. ugh. then some time later don casts right in front of me and fish on. chunky salmon busted water and shook loose. ugh. i was 0 for 3 and 1 follow. lake was calm .Image

10/16/2018 headed a little north this morning to meet up with salmon crazy shore fishing for lakers salmon and maybe bonus steelies or browns. started fishing at 7:35 am with eric coming down at 8:15 am. i was using a blue sardine 3/8 ounce to start off on this sunny day. 3rd cast saw a laker following but shyed away then 2 more times . the 4th time he nailed it and fish on after a 1 minute fight busting water near shore reached for it and it let loose. no net. then eric came down and it wasnt soon he had a real strong hit but no taker. tossed out my kroc and was talking to eric as it was falling smack fish on and i lose this one before seeing it. not that big. i noticed the bite today was near bottom so went up to my vehicle and put on a blue/silver kastmaster to keep it down. what happened next was exciting to say the least ist cast started my retreive just off bottom and freight train hit and fish on. looked at eric and said big one on all of a sudden my line goes slack and out of the water on the end of my line is a 7 to 9 lb salmon i was stunned and just stopped and it threw the kastmaster. needed a tight line here and i didnt. eric and i looked at each other in disbelief it was a football salmon. couple of casts later my line snags on the reel handle and snap there goes my kastmaster a long ways out. ugh. then put on a rainbow kroc 3/8 ounce and it wasnt long a good hit and fish on only to have it shake loose . then eric says got one on not a laker a salmon looked out and says no eric its a brown and it was a fighter. got it to shore and it was foul hooked and eric let it shake loose on shore. then eric changed lures and i changed lures eric with a green swedish pimple and i a silver prism kroc . eric was acting crazy when his lure was close to shore doing some twitching when all of a sudden a good size salmon swiped at it 6 feet from him and the lure came back on shore. ugh. then ten minutes later i have another hit on the way down and fish on got in close to shore and it shook loose and my lure went flying right by eric. ugh to close for comfort. we had a great morning although we were 0 for 6 or 7 but what a blast. lakers salmon and browns same morning doesnt get any better than that.

Hi Matt, looks like you had a great time with Eric. Lots of good bites, and multi species.
Looking good for the frost bite.

Sounds like a great day! I'm new to this region (was in the Pacific Northwest before) and am still figuring out fishing around here.

When you target lakers and salmon from shore, is fishing around broken rocky structure the best bet? Or should I be focusing on river mouths instead? I made an attempt at s rocky point s couple of weeks ago and came up empty.

Thanks for sharing your expertise!

on shore especially in the fall most always fish along rocky shores for lakers. the reason being is lakers spawn in the rocks. salmon is a different story as the ones you catch in the lake this time of the year we call silvers and they are non spawners. the salmon spawners are dark colored now and are in rivers to spawn. i think eric and i got lucky the other day with the salmon because normally we dont catch salmon to much in that area. but right now lakers are cruising along the rocky shore lines.

10/18/2018 hit the lake this morning north to fish with eric on shore for some laker and salmon fishing. got there around 7:40 am with eric just arriving . was soon after set up eric had a freight train hit and no taker. it was 31 degrees with a west wind breeze. then somewhere around 8 am or so got a surprise guest andric (trout crazy) who couldnt get out with his kayak because of wind. introduced him to eric a little while later andric had a good hit right at his feet while he was talking and it was a nice size salmon who skooted away. with andric polarized glasses he was sight fishing them. i kept changing lures when i finally put on a blue sardine kroc and move away from eric and andric and had a strong hit way out but no taker. then much later i was up at the vehicle having a sandwich and a pepsi when andric connected and fish on. went down and watched the fight and it was a good one. finally got it to shore and eric netted a nice laker for andric which had his rainbow kroc down in his gills. so he kept it for dinner nice looking laker. just before that i had a follow and it looked like that one. then somewhere around 11 am eric had to leave but had a hit before leaving. 5 minutes after eric left i had a good hit right at my feet and fish on i land a nice healthy laker. took a quick pic and put back in the water to bite again. then just before leaving i was talking to andric and i had a freight train hit and no taker. the rainbow krocodile was the go to lure again today. the cold front came in last night and shut the fish down. tommorrow is another day. thanks for joining us this morning andric i must say we had fun. eric put on the fishy1 honeybee for awhile dont think he had any hits on it.Image

That laker sure sucked in that lure! And boy did it fight! I swear it felt twice as big.
I'll bring that laker to a dinner party tomorrow night. Of course... I'll cut it up, roll it in cornmeal, fry it, and make my special sauce first.
It was really fun to fish with you guys! Let's get some salmon and browns next!

10/21/2018 headed a little up north for some trout/salmon action with boat in back of pickup. got there around 8:15 am with a stiff breeze out of the northwest so i stuck to shore fishing. within 10 minutes or so a school of small smelt surfaced and then trout started busting water and even looked liked some could be salmon. what a show with there backs out of the water . this was like 25 feet from me so i started tossing my lure out about 50 feet and bang freight train hit and i land a nice laker hurry and toss out again and bang another that shakes loose then a 3rd time bang freight train hit and i land another laker take a quick pic and toss out again bang another hit and it shakes loose toss out again i feel a tap and i have a smelt that hits my lure. then they were gone and eric arrives. told eric if he was here i would have had him cast i would have videod it. about a half hour later i have a good hit and fish on and out og the water busts a nice salmon and shakes loose. then a little while later i lose a laker after jigging in front of me. eric then goes home to eat and i would stay another half hour and then try and get a pheasant for dinner before heading home. it didnt take long for a hit and fish on and a fighter going every which way to get unhooked and the drag zzzzzzzzzzzing but never busted water when i ist saw it thought it was spawning salmon but when it got closer saw the tail and it was a brown. had fun with it kept it and brought it up to eric for their dinner. eric said it was 17 and half inches. it was kind of beat up in the spawning mode so im guessing they are spawning there since they cant get in most streams because of low water. thats my feeling anyhow. stopped pheasant huntng on my way out and got a nice ringneck for dinner what a bonus that was. after i shot saw 2 others fly across the road let them go and went hoime with my one.ImageImageImage

Matt, that's outstanding! What a delicious-looking bird :)

Afternoon and evening:
I caught a pike on the VT side and a laker on the NY side. Explored some new territory that looks promising. Hiked a lot.
