Great Day with a New Salmon Fisher

Fished with Reelax on the IS Saturday...thanks for posting Matt. Although catching limitless white perch is "fun" I wanted to put my friend Chris on some cold water fishes.

Converse was muddy, chunky and with two foot rollers from the south, we motored for Wallons. Set up at Split at 0645. Things were very quiet only sailboats for company. Instigator was there solo for a while and I think the other boat was " Lucky D or Days it was hard to tell. Around 8ish Chris and I finally figured a few things out...Purple Michigan Stinger picked up the most. Chris and I boated around 15 salmon...between 15" to 18".

I finally hooked up with a Tiger Fire at 65' with a nice 6lb Laker ...
Image

Then the big hit of the day Chris had a great battle with this awesome 22". Fish jumped no less then 10 times...once right at the net. This great fish and the story will soon end up on Chris' wall.
Image

Ciscos kept us busy...I finally landed my third Master Angler Fish 13" Cisco.

And to finish off a great day ... I finally got one to hit on a lure I made in my garage...

Great day with a great friend...went 15 for 15 on the salmon...One laker and a ton of huge ciscos.

All the Best ... Kingfisher

Hey King...that's great stuff.
You made the right decision by heading south and it paid off. Well done!!!
Congrats on your (third!!!) MA Cisco and a great job getting your friend on the silvers!

Trying it out Jerry. I hooked Matt up with a couple and I have a 10 lure arsenal of homemade stuff... :o

I do have fun making them for sure...maybe someday you can come by and see my set up...love to get some input.

Sounds like your decision to head south worked out for you... Nice fish! Great post... Did you try the double salmon/laker rig you came up with???

I did ... no takers and I went back to two spoons using cheaters.

I left the three way swivel on and may try it again soon. No issues with the rigging so it may work and it was fun experimenting...lets keep trying different things.

Very nice report Kingfisher. Maybe I should have gone out instead of watching it rain! Congrats on the MA Cisco and those salmon are beautiful when they darken up for fall.

Great report. I wish that I had made the same decission. Instead I went up to the Trout River for some river fishing and found it to be like chocolate milk.

Hey Kingfisher

Great looking "colored" fish you buddy landed and a great looking spoon you taped up, if you put some spots of Tamiron Holo Purple over the blue strips you would have the original "Crazy Ivan" pattern and watch out, once you start catching fish on spoons you made it gets very addicting. LOL

Thanks for the pics and info., Kingfisher. The salmon has such vivd colors. Looks like a trophy rainbow. I haven't been able to conquer the "get soaked for a fish" thing, yet. I even have a fishermans top. I should change my name to "Fairweather176".

This is a great example of targeting fish that are actively feeding. Thanks for the look and the pics.
