I would assume that water temp is similar from top to bottom right now. Fish can be anywhere. Don't give up, but a downrigger set 30 to 40 sounds like a good bet.

I actually haven't been out on Lake Champlain in over a month. I did do some more research and asked around, and I think I came to a conclusion that I was trolling way to deep. The depths that I was trolling at were depths that you would catch lakers and salmon in the summertime. Also, when does lake Champlain freeze over? I live all the way down in Massachusetts on right on the MA/NH border, and most of the ponds and lakes around me are already frozen and have been for a couple weeks already!

Some years lake Champlain never freezes... we fish in a boat all winter long... salmon bite best in Feb.
