Lac St-Louis

Post by Gecha (Gerry) »

It's been a while since I posted a fishing report.
I have been pretty busy all summer with different chores, but did some fishing around Montreal and up North Quebec. Nothing really spectacular to write about.
Last Friday, my son Martin wanted to go fishing. We launched around 11am and started jigging for walleyes. Nothing for the next 2 hours, so we switched to trolling. Did not take too long and we had some bites. We lost 2 huge bass while trying to net them.... my bad. That would have been a PB bass for Martin.
On the next bite, we were a lot more careful and ended up boating a nice 26" walleye. A PB for Martin.

Half an hour later, a nice pike hit his rod. Another PB for Martin.

We had a few more nice oversize walleyes and near the end of the day, a big 14.5" yellow perch jumped on his rod. Another PB for Martin.

Overall, a beautiful day on the water, lots of precious time with my son, and some great fishing memorable moments with pics to prove it.

Trolled a few hours yesterday, Wednesday Sept 1, but bites were tough.
3 bass, 2 pikes and 2 small perch. Nothing spectacular.
Lots of weeds, either loose or near surface.

Back on the same water Friday Sep 3 for about 2 hours in the afternoon.
Temp was cooler than previous outing. Wind and waves picked up around 4 pm so we choose to go back to launch before the rain.
Ended up with one big bass and a nice 19" walleye.

On the water Friday for a few hours of fishing.
Temp was cooler and some heavy wind gusts prevented from fishing our using spots.
We trolled mostly on the north side where there was less wind.
The walleyes did not show up, but bass were fairly aggressive. We caught over half a dozen, all good size, on crankbaits, all safely released.

Those are some healthy looking smallmouths ! Nice that they were consistently good-sized.
I do not exaggerate when I talk about fishing - I underestimate, like I say "just one more cast honey, then I'll come home" !

Fished a few times on Lac St-Louis since my return from the West Coast.
Days are shortening and the weather is getting cooler.
We had a great time on Wednesday catching over 20 bass ,walleyes, and pikes. mostly all trolling.
Most went back in the pond except for 5 walleyes.
Back on the water Friday, trolling, but only 6 catches, including this nice 22" bass.

Rain expected all weekend and up to Tuesday. Hopefully should be back on water Wednesday.

I went back on Lac-St-Louis Tuesday and Wednesday.
Both beautiful days on the water but slow action. We managed to catch some walleyes but it was a long time between the strikes.
Getting lots of loose weeds at the surface which makes trolling a bit painful.
We hooked a nice musky which did not wanted getting into the net. It went back quickly in the water after the pic.

Thursday we fished Lac St-Pierre, a bit over 1 hour east of Montreal.
Very thick fog that cleared around 11:30am. On the water about 5 hours, mostly trolling, and some jigging. We managed 5 walleye keepers. Again, it was a slow biting day, with lots of loose weeds at the surface. We have beautiful warm weather since beginning of week, and we enjoy it as much as possible while it lasts.
Should be back on Lac St-Louis tomorrow.

On the pond with my son Martin Saturday. It was a very bumpy day, we got wet from all the water splashing from the waves.
We could not jig because of too much wind so ended up slow trolling.
Ended up with 3 nice walleyes in the box.
We also hooked a fat pike that fought crazy before we got him in the net.

On the St-Louis Monday. It was a beautiful day. No wind, a bit cloudy but temps around and above 70. Ended up catching over 15 walleyes, my buddy kept 5.
Caught 2 while jigging, but most of them caught trolling in our usual spot.
Rest of the week looks good, so I'll be back on the pond soon.

On the water today for a few hours. Very light wind and nice temp. We got a few little drizzles during the afternoon.
Today fish did not want to play. They were hard to get.
Only caught one walleye while trolling, all the other ones caught jigging. Ended up keeping 5, releasing another 5.
Still lots of loose weeds making trolling in some places a challenge.
