Fishing around Montreal

Post by Gecha (Gerry) »

Have been on the water a few times a week since June, chasing walleyes, mostly on lake St-Louis, just west of Montreal.
Caught fish on all my outings but not much on the size.... Seems water is fairly warm, surface temp of 76 degrees.
Outing Tuesday on Lake St-Pierre, 60 kms on water, with only 3 released small walleyes and 1 bass.
Yesterday on Lake St-Louis, had a very slow start, but ended with 5 nice keepers in the boat, all caught on jig with crawler. Fish are deep and not very active.
Will be on water again tomorrow.

Fished 4 hours on Saturday July 25. We got a few bites but only 1 made it to the livewell.
It was getting pretty hot in the afternoon.
Weekend is harder to fish, too much traffic on water making lots of waves and noise.
Should be back when weather cools a bit during the week.

Thanks for the reports Gerry. Boat traffic is very high all over... weekends are almost unbearable on lake Champlain right now.. :?

Could not fish since last Saturday because of high winds. Instead I spent some time building about 100 jigs for walleye fishing, 1/2 and 3/4 ounces. Half are round, others are oval shaped. Now I need to test them :D

On the water this morning at 7:15 am till 1:30 pm. I did not do much, only 2 small throwbacks.
However my friend Dan had some good bites. He caught a keeper as well as a throwback and a small sturgeon.
His throwback was 27", a beautiful grandpa walleye.

After a few pics, it was revived and released to grow bigger.

The sturgeon was also safely released.

Friday July 31, I fished with my friend Bob (Fish Fanatic). We launched at Sorel, about 1 hour north east of Montreal on the St-Lawrence.
We spent almost 8.5 hours and covered 56.3 miles on the water. I only caught 2 keeper walleyes and 2 throwbacks.
Bob got a grand slam: Walleye, perch, bass, catfish..... nothing worth keeping or taking pics.
Weather was gorgeous and traffic was minimal on the water.
We got back at the ramp around 4:30 pm. We hit a thunderstorm on our way back home, it washed the car and boat clean. :D

Nice water and destination Gerry! Good stuff! Noticed the shipping channel.. Do they have to dredge that?

They dredged the channel around 40 feet many years ago.
Some part of the lake can be pretty shallow.

Love the updates but what I really wanna see is some pics of you and Andre’ holding some of these great fish!

Many thanks for sharing Gerry... I see a couple of million dollar white marlin were caught at the WMO in Ocean City yesterday...... one at 1.7 million!

Hope we can fish it again together in 2021!!!

Fish on!
