Smallmouth

Post by bottomfeeder »

Made my annual trip to fish for Smallmouth and fished two half days and 4 full days.
The Smallmouth were pre spawn and fat most fish were caught on 2,3&4" swim baits with a few on blades and smoke curl tails.
Key to getting bites was slow dragging the plastic baits on the bottom.
Most fishing was done in the bay at Swanton got into the main lake one day when the wind had laid down only had about 4" clearance going under the railroad bridge. Fished St Albains one day with good results but boated more largemouth.
The largest were two 20" and had many 18" and a few 19" fish. Best day was the 11th with over fifty fish.
Wanted to try for Salmon but never got the chance the fishing was just to good to try something else.
The south wind kept me in the bay most of the trip so I didn't get to explore any new places or even some of my regular spots.
This was my best ever trip for numbers and size.

Thank you for the tips !
I go in this area today. If trouts don't cooperate, bass will (I hope).
