St. Albans Bay 5/7

Post by Red Targa »

Took advantage of the nice weather and fished St. Albans bay after work. Found the bass in about 4 feet of water - didn't see much deeper but they were packed into the shallows. The water was so low, clear and calm that it was tough getting bites until the sun started heading towards the horizon and then the bass turned on big time. Must have caught 100 smallmouth - one on every cast for about 45 minutes. Caught 5 or so really nice ones, with a few bonus largemouth and pike thrown in. It was like fishing in an aquarium there were so many fish and it was so clear. Saw a couple big bowfin swimming around too, but didn't try to tempt them to join me in the boat. Caught everything on a black/silver x-rap. Couldn't get them to go on the other baits I tried - although once they turned on I didn't try much else,
