Salmon lenght vs weight

Post by Wallyandre (Andre) »

I did get some infos about weight vs lenght for the 2 nice salmons caught last week.

28.5-inch fish is 724mm.
29-inch fish is 737mm.

The chart would estimate the weights at over 4000 grams, which is 8.8-lbs or more!

As you can see, the regression line for river fish and lake fish doesn’t even extend that far, because fish of that size are not a significant part of our sampling data. We just don’t see fish that big!
This data is from the USFWS

Interesting data Andre. "Data is our friend" is what we used to say in our characterization days at IBM.

Great chart Andre.
Can you translate it into inches and lbs for our South of the Border friends. I don't think they know too much about the metric system.

Awesome! Judging by that chart my 28" LL was in the 8.8 LB range, and my 27" Steelhead was in the 7.9 LB range...neither were spawned out either, sa-weeeeeeeeeet!

It's cool to see how much weight they gain after a certain length!

It's just like us... When we are young, we grow a few inches a year. Then we stop growing in length and start picking a few lbs a year :P :P
