I suppose this is great news, considering the massive flooding and devastating conditions Lake Champlain and its fishery went thru this year. We have to wonder about how the forage base made out spawning...

Lady Brown showed me she had been chasing what appears to be young of year Smelt??? Good news!

How big are those smelt? Do we have any Fish and Game folks in attendance that can confirm that they are this years? It would be great if they were able to pull off a successful hatch! It would prove that almost nothing can stop them !!!

Sure look like YOY Smelt to me. Would love to have a couple looked at by Ellen and her crew.

I'd say those smelt were no longer that 1-1/2", although I didn't measure them.
The head of the brown is in the picture as a reference...it was a 17" fish.

No longer than 1 1/2 inches??? Then I agree with you guys. They looked to be about 3 or 3.5 ". But if they were that small I completely agree!
