I have'nt heard any wind reports on NOAA this year for ''Diamond Island". Anyone know what's going on with that.

Thanks Paul; [salmoneye]. It would be nice to know the wind down there for when the shootout gets here!

Scroll down for the up to the minute readings at locations around the area down here...One at Arnold's Bay...
The Diamond equipment has been offline since one of those big blows out of the NorthWest last fall...I thought Bill had said that they would be attacking the problem mid summer, but I have not talked to him about it since...

Thanks I'll check it out! I also thought Bill said something about that when I took a ride on the "Mel" this spring.

Re: Diamond Island
Same deal as Burton Island I wonder. Last reading was 9/8/11. Or did the last one off the island trip over the cord?

I also use Weather Underground up this way. It used to have a station located along Georgia shore and one in Grand Isle but they both must of been damaged and retired.Salmoneye wrote:

The NOAA Burton Island site always seemed "off" to me anyway...I never trusted it. Still, it's a shame it's down...it's only a year or two old.

DIAMOND I UPDATE
We went down to Diamond in the spring to do annual maintenance/repairs on the VMC weather station, only to find young Ospreys in the nest. State regulations prevent any tampering or removing of the nests, so we were at the mercy of the birds. USCG has a nav aid (light) that has been out all season and they ran into the same issue.
The good news is that the birds are gone and we've been given the go ahead to make repairs. Plan is to go down in about a week to get the station up and running again.
Believe me, it's been frustrating for all of us, but hopefully this will be completed in the near future.

Re: Diamond Island
Thanks for the update Bill.
If Ospreys are in the way...I don't have a problem with that. Glad to see them reproducing.
