SNAPS AND SWIVELS

Post by Papatom »

Anyone use the quick easy to use swivels and snaps. The ones im using are almost impossible to open or shut with thumbnail and fingers. I have to use small needle nose plyers and then its hard to do.
Anyone using the newer quick snaps???? You happy with them??????
Thank you.

Yup, what Dry Net said. Just a small Duo loc snap at the lure with a 50# Spro swivel between the leader and main line. Helps give the lure more action than a snap swivel would.

Also consider crankbait snaps. I've been using the smaller VMC crank bait snaps for a couple weeks and like them a little better than the duo locks. Even those are easy on the fingers and the larger versions are probably more user-friendly.

Like the posters above, I run the swivel several feet ahead of the lure -- main line, swivel, leader, snap.

Good idea, BD&BD! Those crankbait snaps have a wider gap and could allow the lure to have more action. I'll have to try some.

A pic is worth a 1000 words...

The smaller your hardware the better. And ya can’t beat this leader line. The swivels are pline brand... the duo snaps are $4 per 500 on eBay...

Good luck!!

Ps the swivels are sooo small you can run a 5 foot leader to the duosnap if you want... they reel right thru the islets and are shaped to never catch in a fight:)

Interesting.

I found some very small ball-bearing swivels on EBay a few years ago. They perform well but are still a little bulkier than I want.

I'll have to try those chain swivels.

I've used Seaguar STS for several seasons now, primarily targeting lakers through the ice. Great leader and a little thinner than the P-line. But it does break closer to the stated strength. I'm OK with that but probably not necessary for trolling.

Thanks for the tips. You're a wealth knowledge on this forum!
