Coast Guard Kill Switch Enforcement

Post by TUnamas »

Numerous recent boating-related articles report that the Coast Guard will be enforcing the use of the kill switch lanyard on boats shorter than 26 feet, powered by at least 3hp, which don't have a closed cabin and which are underway at a speed fast enough to plane. Trolling is explicitly excluded, as is launching and recovery. But when moving from spot to spot, better slip that lanyard through a loop on our pants or jacket. Just an FYI! Stay safe!

Think enforcement is only going to be on boats made with them. Mine has it with new controlls, but if your boat doesn't have it , I believe you don't have to worry.
