Brecknell ElectroSampson scale 22 lb. ie. aka Shoot Out scale

Post by digitroll (ron) »

I have been using one of these now for 6-7 years with catch and release. They are super accurate and easy to read in big digital LCD numbers. B.A.S.S. organization is endorsing them. UVM and VT Fish and Wildlife. Bill Lowell has been using them in our Shoot Out for 11 years. This makes a great Christmas Gift.

I just purchased a second one on Amazon Prime (free shipping) that reads up to 55 lbs for Lake Ontario. The Fish Doctor Ernie Langtine swears by them!

If you want a super accurate scale look no further!

BASS guys are now using them in their tournaments:

What do you use to cradle the fish during weighing? (I am almost 100 per cent sure you don't use the S-hook in the gills.)

One option is the plastic Rapala grips by the jaw and insert the scale hook into the strap of the grips. Another I like is using a Hannafords Tyvex grocery bag and just put the hook over the straps similar to a commercial fish bag. The fish doesn't get hurt in the bag and it's a quick weigh. I also use a 5 gallon orange Home Depot bucket 75% full of water and the first thing I do is put the fish in head first till I am ready to transfer to the bag to weigh and take a quick photo back in the bucket for a few minutes then in the water.

They are big and clanky but super accurate but easy to weigh with your fish in a bag. We have weighed fish on certified scales back when I fished the Basin derby and they are dead on! With a 5 gallon bucket of water to stage your fish on the boat the handling of photos / weighing makes it really easy and quick for release.
