Spot Lock

Post by striper192001 »

Hey guys,

Can the captains that have or have used "Spot Lock" technology trolling motors weigh in on options. I would like to add this to my boat to jig for lakers. I also will do a bit of bass fishing. Appreciate all info. I have a 19.5 Crestliner Sportfish with 150 hp Verado. Thanks in advance.

It works, you just need a long enough shaft to keep the prop underwater when it's rough. I have an 18'4" mid 70's starcraft with a minn kota ulterra 60" (same as the terrova but with auto-deploy). 60" shaft works fine 90% of the time, but on a boat with a higher bow you'd need to move up a size.

But it will definitely hold you over a deep hump for jigging.

It also works great as a trolling autopilot, just lock the main or kicker straight in gear to push you and use the magnetic compass on the TM to steer a course. I put an extension skeg on mine that improves steering ability considerably.

On youre boat you better order a 72" shaft and the 80pds of trust minimum.

Thanks guys for the responses. Looks like I won't go above 80 lbs as I don't want to do 36v. Any other guys use another manufacturer other than Minn Kota ??

You can link the Xi5 with a Lowrance HDS or a Elite Ti or a Simrad Go

Can anyone weigh in with experience on both Minn Kota and Motorguide to help me decide which to purchase ??

The remote control on the Minnkotta is a lot better and easier to use.
