2019 BUOY PLACEMENT Inland Sea & South Lake

Post by popster »

INLAND SEA & ST ALBANS BAY BUOYS
Middlebury College has or will be deploying 10 new hydrodynamic research buoys in the St Albans Bay Area. These are identified by 1m high Yellow Buoys with strobes.
In addition, the S2 Met Buoy that was used last season is now installed and is located WNW of Burton Island, approx 2 miles from the bridge in 104’. This is the Buoy that is accessible for obtaining real time lake conditions and temperatures throughout the water column.

There is not a link to the information from the 4 Southern buoys.

Those Middlebury College buoys are fetching current, temp and other data and are not designed to feed data in real time and will be retrieved by the College in the fall when the data will be downloaded. All 4 are subsurface and marked with a 1m high Yellow Buoy and strobe.

The good news.....SUNY Plattsburgh will be deploying a buoy in the vicinity of the 4 Middlebury buoys and it will be similar to the one they have off the South end of Valcour I. Both buoys will have a website when they get deployed.

Once again, the link to the Inland Sea buoy:

SUNY PLATTSBURGH has deployed their data buoy today for the season, giving anglers in the Valcour area some fantastic information. If you use the data, please let Eric & Mark from SUNY hear from you with any feedback. Maybe we can see some more of these in the future.

SUNY Plattsburgh maintains a data buoy southeast of Valcour/Garden Islands in Lake Champlain. The buoy collects information on surface weather and lake water temperatures (from the surface to a depth of 50m). Near real time data is provided here for general use, but attribution to SUNY Plattsburgh and our funding agencies is requested for any further distribution. Support for the data buoy comes from NOAA Lake Champlain Sea Grant, the Lake Champlain Research Consortium, and SUNY Plattsburgh (Center for Earth and Environmental Science and Lake Champlain Research Institute).
