SUCCESSFUL BROWN TROUT STOCKING
On a flat calm, glorious day without a Gull or Cormorant in site, the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Dept today stocked 8000 beautiful 8-10” Brown Trout in Burlington Bay outside of the Breakwater.
Two trucks from the Ed Weed Hatchery in Grand Isle transported 4000 fish each to the USCG launch in Burlington, where they were then transferred into oxygenated tanks on the two State Sea Hawks. Each boat made 8 trips with 500 fish per trip from the dock to complete the stocking. The team consisted of Hatchery personnel Ben Rooks, Michelle Ayer, Mark Roche & Paul Corriveau plus Biologist Brian Chipman and Fish Specialist Dave Gibson. A big thank you to them all.
Ever wonder what Capt Brian Dunkling does when not fishing or cleaning fish? Today he was assisting Fish & Wildlife in transferring 8000 fish from the Hatchery trucks to the boats. I was happy to assist in the operation of one of the boats.
A number of pics of the Brown Trout stocking follows. The conditions were so favorable and calm that the last 2 pics clearly show some of the newly stocked fish streaking down to depths of 20’+. Very cool to watch.

Thank you Bill, and to Paul, and to the State. With hope they'll grow big and offer some great opportunities in the future. It's awesome to know that my friends and fellow anglers are actively engaged like this in the future of our fishery. Thanks!

Re: SUCCESSFUL BROWN TROUT STOCKING
In response to Fishy1 post about wishing they had the same success at Apple Island. All fish stocked at Apple Island were done by April 1st and were actually stocked under the ice that had pulled away slightly from shore to protect them from these birds of prey. What folks are seeing is the feeding of heavy alewive die offs. I was there this past Monday with a west to east wind and all birds were feeding on the state park side following the floating dead alewives. The F&W people have been busting their ass to ensure early stocking and survival of these fish. So again please get your info straight when posting. Just to be clear I hate these birds as much as anyone and hope some control methods are resuming again soon.

Thanks Bill and Captain Brian. Because of guys like you, F and W have changed their stocking practices. Also thanks to Bagman for keeping up with all things related to fishing our Lake.

Re: SUCCESSFUL BROWN TROUT STOCKING
Capt Brian did all the work, transferring fish from the trucks to the boats. I just drove the boat some and blessed the 4000 fish telling each that I hoped to see them again when they graduated nursery school! A good day at the office

We're onto you Popster... You play the "good guy" but in fact you must be dragging your fingers in the tank to train those fish to respond to your amino acids later in life... If we ever see you trolling with your hand over the rail, we are coming for you! And to learn that you ratted out Brian as being involved in this conspiracy too.... Shocking! (But seriously, Thanks!)

Busted Scott.
I admit, there were times during the stocking process when my mind wandered and visions of olfactory imprinting and Sirens danced in my head, but being lashed to the helm, I couldn’t touch the 4000 beauties
