Ocean City Report

Post by Gecha (Gerry) »

Hi all,
Summer is in full swing in Ocean City, MD
Fishing has been great for some, lousy for others.... I am on the second group :(
Caught a good share of throwback flounders within the last few weeks and finally got a keeper Friday evening.
Will post a picture soon.

Is that a Fluke or a flounder? Flatties are always fun to catch!

It's a fluke (Summer flounder), but everyone here just call them flounder.

It was a very busy weekend on the water.
Temp was gorgeous but too many weekenders boats to truly enjoy fishing.

We coasted a bit south of the city and beached in Assateague Island.

It's a state park starting south of Ocean City MD and going way down to Chincoteague VA.
It is a priceless seashore ecosystem and a sustainable resource.
Plenty of pristine white sands along the coastline. Magnificent wildlife everywhere, and well renowned for their wild ponies.

Within a few minutes we picked about 10 lbs. of delicious wild blackberries.

A lot more to pick on our next trip later this week.

We had a wonderful weekend... a bit crowded on the water, but beautiful weather and good biting.
Our neighbours went a bit offshore on Sunday and returned with some nice Mahi-Mahi.
Guess what we have for diner tonight :D

Still trying to catch some keeper flounders almost every day. Catching many throwbacks and having great time on the water.
This week there was a big fishing tournament "White Marlin Open' with 1st price over a million $$....
Always pleasant to cruise near those fishing vessels.
As we do in Champlain, they search for the bait fish, use their downriggers, outriggers, attractors and secret lures to attract and catch their preys.
Mostly searching for white marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, big eye tuna, blue fin tuna, yellow fin, mahi-mahi, wahoo.
Image
Going 40-80 miles offshore, burning 200-400 gallons of fuel daily.... it's a bit out of my budget.
