Saco Maine

Just got back from a few days out of Saco with a friend. The whole area is alive with schoolie stripers. Taking white and silver flies in shallow water on the falling tide. yellow and white also working. Edges of the rips seem to produce best. If you are tired of the heat, sailboats, low water launches and lakers as I am, give it a try. No big stripers landed, but even schoolies are a ball on a fly rod. No particular launch to recommend, but the locals say that from Portsmouth NH all the way to Casco Bay is having a great time right now.

thanks for the report my wife and i are thinking of going over for a weekend. we usually fish out of camp ellis or pine point. havent been there the last two years but had some good days over there for years. im not a fly fisherman but it had to be fun catching those stripers on a fly rod. stripers on a spinning rod are a tough battle. your post makes me want to get over there if we can.

Bigger fish are getting caught right now off the beaches at night / early am. Clams have been a hot bait after the storm.

Any ledges are also a good bet this time of year, the warm weather we had late into the year has keeped the fish here in numbers longer then most years.

Way to go Bryan. Good to hear at least you and Matt are catching fish. I've been drying out the C-Hawk for the last 3 weeks, as I was getting concerned about the invasives taking over. Getting caught up with work and all the stuff I neglect all summer. Also getting caught up with the Laphroaig. Time to tune up some equipment for the fall push. Hope to catch you one day.
