Hunting turkeys and pheasants in between fishing

Post by fishy1 »

10/03/10/9/2020.been hunting turkeys with one miss and I hit and wounded so far. Pheasants been doing great limited out twice this week. I don't have a dog walk the hedge rows looking for movement or cackling. Tough with the leaves and under brush now have to be patient and only take good shots. I only want a head shot to not ruin the meat. I got some big rooster's as you will see in pics. One the tail is over my head and it's head below my knees I'm almost 6 foot tall.

Nice pics Matt. That's a long rooster tail.
Glad you're able to go out and enjoy one of your favorite hobby.
Fishing seems pretty slow these days, so why not trade a rod for a rifle :)

Been hunting pheasant's 2 more times since last post. I was 3 for 5 and saw at least 6 more no shots. Lots of fun and good exercise but I need to get shore fishing.

10/16/2020 after chemo and a shot was under the weather Thursday so stayed home. This morning rain and I felt a little better so took a ride. Saw 3 pheasants right off but raining to hard to chase. Then I saw a bear tried to get a pic just missed. Then 4 deer animals like the rain. Hopefully later the rain allows me hunt. Saw 2 flocks if turkeys to. Then I went to Aldi's to get some groceries and got back around 10 am with light rain . 3 pickups on state land so I went back and hunted private land with permission. When I parked saw 2 roosters run into the thickets. Walked down along the fence about 25 yards from the thickets. Got about 50 yards down when I heard them cackling. I froze and waited about 15 minutes when suddenly one ran out shot and a hit then 2 other rooster's took to the air I shoot again rooster down. There is my limit of 2 pheasants both big rooster's. What a productive day but got sick on way home. Ugh rest tonight muzzleloader tommorow. Today's tally 7 pheasants 1 bear 4 deer 4 flocks if turkeys and 1 fisher and 2 porcupines
