Duck hunting and trolling

Question for everyone: Do you ever bring your shotgun out during duck season? The law is fairly clear that the boat can’t be under way and on when you shoot a duck, but time and again we encounter flocks in range, and it seems it’s as simple as kicking into reverse for a second to end progress and t...

The one that got away 10/13 Willoughby Report

On some intel me and a couple buddies headed inland to lake willoughby to try to get on a hot morning bite. Arrived at 6:45, and put gear in the water. The light wind was cold and biting, and the clouds wouldn’t break we trolled south for about an hour before our first strike, a small salmon. Reset ...

9/6 Converse

Got a late start Friday, on the water at 9:40. Headed across to split rock and started to set gear. Dead calm wasn’t a great sign for fish. Bait was stacked EVERYWHERE birds feeding etc. bait from 10-60 with more at 80. Consistent thick bait clouds extended all the way to snake den. Gear down 60 at ...

Re: Look at those #'s

i was out last weekend with Hard Knox out of Henderson. The fish were there, bite bite was tough. We did boat 2 mature Kings 1 27lb and the other around 22. Couple skippers, a nice walleye, a couple small browns and 2 lakers as well.

Looks like LCU will be representing on Lady O this weekend! We are heading out as well. Not sure of port yet, either Henderson or Mexico. Good luck everyone.

Re: They are still out there!

The Smelt is cool. We landed a 4 inch Alewife early this year on a Mag Stinger spoon, no fish or release just an alewife when we reeled in. Perfect lip hook, still haven't convinced myself that it bit the lure though... Always wonder whats mouth it was in. Looks like you had a good trip. Your posts ...

Re: 4/17 lakers

We were out from BTV today. Waves were iffy at times but mostly ok. Had the hump to ourselves for 3 hours before the crowd arrived. Doubles and triples on every pass when we could run the path that was working, but then a jig boat spot locked in the middle of our route we had run several times. Afte...

Re: Jigging or Other Methods w/o Trolling Gear?

troutcrazy, I like your ideas of using 3-way swivels w/ weights and snap sinkers and I'd like to give them a try... sort of like you, I am doing non-motorized trolling, just using a rowboat and so I need something that works for a small boat. What sort of line do you use w/ the 3-way swivels w/ big...

Re: GPS tablet install (Samsung Galaxy 8")

A FAN!!!! OMG that is a friggen brilliant idea that has never even on the worst days crossed my mind. I love my ipad for sonar, though I dont have a mount for it, it fits perfect in the middle of my steering wheel which is not used at all since I steer with the Minn Kota.

Re: Questions about trolling with "big" motor

I have a Yamy 115 on my 20ft Polar Kraft. Trolls to 1.6-1.7 with gear in, 2.2-2.3 with it out or early season (higher lighter gear). It is really amazing what rigger balls and mag divers do to increase drag. Prop pitch + RPM is your key factor. bigger or heavier boats will have a lower pitch prop, I...

Re: Advice Needed - Fishing near Swanton

That shore holds some Monster northern pike... use heavy casting spoons like daredevils or crocodiles to cast way out and walk the shore on your hunt. Just an idea... Welcome to the forum, thanks for taking the time to post... Good luck and let us know how you do! Lost the biggest pike of my life i...
