Re: Winterizing boat/using it in Nov/Dec?

The previous owner took well care of it, so I'm just trying to figure out the most important things to keep it maintained.

Re: walleyes

Intresting stuff Matt, but if you ever were to go to the Moosehead region and mention white perch to the well established fly crowd, be ready for an education.I think that brook trout are river and stream spawners and lake trout are lake spawners. Apples to oranges, I am only speculating comparing ...

Re: walleyes

Ice fishermen introduced white perch on Moosehead years ago and biologists know that the perch feed on brook trout eggs. This has lead to a decline of trophy brook trout in the Lake. If they eat brookie eggs, it only stands to reason that they would eat walleye eggs. I've never once caught a white ...

Re: Winterizing boat/using it in Nov/Dec?

I ended up fogging the motor a few days ago. I read that you want to fog it until it dies, but it did NOT want to die. Struggled, but just wouldn't die. I ended up shutting it off after constant fogging for like 30 seconds. Smoked real good, pulled the plugs and fogged inside as well. Disconnected t...

Re: frostbite shore fishing for lakers updated 10/31/2017

I ended my Fall laker fishing from shore today and it was pretty slow. One fish to show for it. Had an incredible time this year in new places, learning new things. I managed to land about 75 lakers this Fall :o The boat never saw water this Fall. I was waiting for a calm, sunny weekend day....never...

Re: walleyes

Trophy eyes are OLD...slow growers. 100 boats on each river starting from the season opener to when they leave the rivers puts a pretty big dent in the population IMO. I'm not convinced about whites eating their eggs. Everyone has heard of it, but are there any studies or proof? Eyes are also hard t...

Re: Winterizing boat/using it in Nov/Dec?

Matt, some times older motors have trouble slumping gas up to carb due to small leaks. That is why choking helps solo much. If you smell gas, you have choked it too much. Dont worry about cold, just drain the lower unit water around prop each time. I haven't winterized my boat in the 3 years since ...

Re: Winterizing boat/using it in Nov/Dec?

Jimbow sent a helpful PM about starter fluid and some info on fogging on my last day out. How do I know when to spray, when the motor starts to die from lack of gas?

I run non ethanol, so should I have to treat the gas anyway?

Winterizing boat/using it in Nov/Dec?

Been a while since I posted...lots of stuff going on. Hoping to be done with yet more home repairs in the next few weeks. Horrible experience so far...very stressful stuff. I'm looking at how to approach Nov and Dec fishing in the lake in my boat. Have not had time to do all the required research, s...

Re: Hatchery brook 10/13

Make this as well as all of the tributaries CATCH AND RELEASE only Sept 1st-Jan 1st. Snaggers will virtually disappear if they cant kept what they snag. That way real fisherman can still enjoy the sport. Riddler Ahhh another hatchery thread, lol. Snagging will continue - fly fishermen do it there t...

Took the hoses off to find small pebbles trapped in there. Blew them out and have 10x the flow now!

Re: Mercury water pressure low

The pee hole is clear for sure but maybe theres mud in the line itself or the brass fitting. That would be the first bottleneck inside the cowl that I could access.

Re: Mercury water pressure low

What did the old impeller look like? Pieces missing that could be plugging up suction or discharge? Some motors just dont pump water well on muffs. May need to use a plastic barrel or put the boat in water. It had grooves worn in the rubber. Probably from sand erosion?? Is it possible the motor has...

Re: Mercury water pressure low

I finally got around to replacing the impeller, seals, washers and plate. Only a little better though...from the videos I have seen of other mercs, the water should be shooting out, mines seems to be lacking....where should I start from here? Unhook the tubes and clean them? And yes the lower unit w...
