Hop on I-89 south and head to Waterbury.
The reservoir is one of the most reliable smelt fisheries in the state.
PM me for specifics.

Re: Floating Eatery with some salmon thrown in…
Great report as usual, Matt! For those going tomorrow, I fished the NY side out of Arnold's Bay today. Warmest water I found in the bays was 38.3 degrees, but no salmon. Pulled stick baits for a couple hours before switching gears. Fishville north was loaded with bait and plenty of cooperative laker...

Re: Weekend Recap
That may be the case.
I look forward to chasing lakers through the ice, but I'm not confident any trout lakes, even in the NEK, will have safe ice until sometime in February.
But, if we can still troll on Champ, I'll take it!

Weekend Recap
Fished New Year's Day and today. Had to check a few things off the Honey-Do list yesterday morning so was only able to fish in the afternoon. Splashed at Converse around noon and ran to Split Rock. Set one rod with 5 colors of lead and the other with my standard torpedo weight and fixed cheater. Ver...

Re: Afternoon in Fishville
Here you go: rs=w_443,h_329.jpeg I run 12# mono on these rods. The dive charts seem very accurate with that line. I then splice in 22 feet of 20# fluorocarbon with a blood knot. I then tie two dropper loops about 20 feet apart. Next, I splice 50 feet of 14# FC, again with a blood knot. Finally, I us...

Re: Afternoon in Fishville
Thanks, Matt!
I'll consider bringing slide divers into the mix. That'd be a great option when I have a partner and can run more than 2 rods.
One benefit of the torpedo weights is the ability to easily rig cheaters. I've been very happy with those.

Afternoon in Fishville
Made it out to Fishville this afternoon. Launched at Arnold's Bay around noon and scooted SW running the troughs. Much more wind and sea than I expected. Dropped off plane in about 70 feet and quartered the wind west. Started with 3 colors of lead rigged with a CI Silver Bomb Pop. Had a fish before ...

Re: Zero Blasting, Little Bit of Casting.
A few pics of the setup: IMG_0891.jpg IMG_0892.jpg The boat has full gunnels and a front deck. Under each gunnel is a shelf. To port is space for a blind bag, the electronics, a paddle and the shotgun. To starboard, I have two sets of horizontal rod racks. The cockpit is 42" by 96" with a ...

Zero Blasting, Little Bit of Casting.
Recent weather seems to have pushed many waterfowl south. Had a couple weeks of fun chasing divers but was unable to scout any birds late last week. Scouted the fill on Saturday and saw a fraction of what was there a week or so prior. Bit snotty out on the fishing grounds so I declined to troll (las...

Re: Any luck with jigging for Alewife to use for bait?
Please remember that VT has restrictive regulations on gear and bait. Regarding sabiki rigs, note that: Each line may not have more than two baited hooks or three artificial flies or two lures with or without bait. Further: On Lake Champlain, alewife and white perch may be taken only by open-water/i...

Re: Great Laker bite
Took a trip up that way on Sunday. Mostly cruising -- ran across outer Mallett's, through the fill, north through the Gut, and had lunch in North Hero. On the way back, the Admiral humored me and I was able to troll the humps off Providence for about 25 minutes. Pulled the hook on a nice fish and la...
