Re: Willsboro Lakers 2023

From my experience, some groups of fish are biters and others are not. Many jiggers use spot lock to stay on a group of fish, but if they are not biting after a few different lures and methods, it's time to move on. We don't have spot lock, so we depend on the drift to cover water effectively. We ra...

Willsboro Lakers 2023

We took our annual 3 day trip from this past Saturday through Tuesday. The weather was volatile to say the least but the fish were there, although not always willing. We found a good number of fish to the North, although the water had a distinct green tint to it. I'm not sure if that was just surfac...

Willboro Lakers

Our annual trip up to the big lake. We fished Saturday afternoon through Tuesday morning, about 3 full days altogether with a number of naps thrown in for good measure. On Saturday, we could find only biters in 105-110 fow, then as the week progressed we found other groups shallower with the best gr...

Re: Willsboro Lakers

We probably were out there for 10 hours, so 3 fish an hour between 2 guys is not that fast. There have been times when we've done much more than that. It just depends on their mood that day. Enjoy the fishery and treat your fish nicely!

Willsboro Lakers

We went on our annual trip to Willsboro this past weekend. Arrived Saturday afternoon to a very stiff South wind which had the lake rolling. Landed 6 on jigs in 80 FOW, but it was tough to get them to bite. Sunday was more of the same with even heavier winds. We moved out a bit deeper in 80-90 FOW a...

Re: Lake trout jigging

Nice work! Heading up this weekend for our annual trip. Jigging Lake trout is our typical method/target. We will be in the Willsboro area. We normally go in July, but had to move it back a month. Any location changes from July to August? Not on the lake often and only a few days to fish. Any input w...

Re: Willsboro Lakers

In approach #1, we use 20lb power pro on a baitcaster with a 6 ft 20lb flouro leader. In approach #2 we use spinning gear with 6-8 lb fireline with a 6 ft 10lb flouro leader. I suppose you could also use light bass baitcasters but light line is crucial. Good Luck!

Re: Willsboro Lakers

Sorry, was away from the board for a while. I would suggest going with as light a jig as possible to get down to the bottom depending on the wind. We use primarily 2 setups. 1) Spro jig (or similar) with plastic or gulp on the hook. Let it down to the bottom, jig it a little, let it drop to the bott...

Willsboro Lakers

We went on our annual 3 day trip on Saturday 7/18. After hopping around a bit jigging for lakers, here is what we found. The fish were located anywhere between 75 and 115 feet, but the fish in the 95-105 range were much more likely to bite your jig than the shallower or deeper ones. The fish also se...

Willsboro Carp

Does anybody know if the carp population in Willsboro Bay is large enough to make it fishable? Just wondering if it makes sense to bring some gear for cocktail hour after fishing for trout/bass all day.
Thanks!

Rental on NY side

We have our rental on the NY side in July and we are from out of state. Are there any current rules in place regarding rentals, launches, etc. We plan on bringing all of our own food and just stay at the cabin and fish. Almost can't see how any issue unless they don't let out of state boats launch. ...
