Jigging lakers near Burlington
After a lot of trying I finally caught a lake trout. This was along the drop off in Burlington bay. Surface water temperature was 70 degrees, sky was clear. I took a few passes trolling with lead core, marked fish on the bottom and none suspended, then went back to those bottom fish I'd marked and j...

Re: First leadcore setup - how many colors?
Thanks everyone. I rigged up the full 10 colors, figuring I can start with that and cut some off later if I want to.

First leadcore setup - how many colors?
I'm still trying to learn how to better catch fish while trolling - and really enjoying reading the archives of this forum to learn! I'm setting up my first leadcore rod and wondering how you all do this. What's a versatile amount of leadcore line to put on if I'm only going to set up a single rod l...

Lake trout newbie - fall tactics?
After a few attempts jigging this summer I'm still after my first lake trout (saw some on the sonar but couldn't get them to bite). Sounds like tactics need to change as the seasons do. Can I ask you experts for advice on fall tactics? For fall fishing near shore... People talk about the causeway an...

Re: How's my plan for Friday? (Still in pursuit of first lake trout)
Really appreciate the advice, everyone. I went out this morning (Saturday) instead of Friday because today had less wind. I worked around that plateau outside of Converse Bay, saw some bait and some large fish near the bottom mostly in 100-140 feet of water, jigged using the lures discussed earlier....

Re: How's my plan for Friday? (Still in pursuit of first lake trout)
Thanks for the tips! Mike 8484, I have a tan kayak, sounds like it was someone else you spotted. I do have a drift sock, I'll be sure to use it. TUnamas, I'll throw a couple white and silver swim baits I have into the mix. Maybe I'll try dragging a stick bait around the bottom as you suggest, too. A...

How's my plan for Friday? (Still in pursuit of first lake trout)
Hi, everyone. I'm still in pursuit of my first lake trout. The forecast for Friday morning is low wind so that's my next shot (I fish from a kayak, wind makes things difficult). Would all you experts please tell me if my plan is a good one? I'll put in at Converse Bay and fish the 70-90 feet deep sh...

Lake trout jigging outside Converse Bay July 17
Jigged for lake trout outside Converse Bay on Saturday morning, 8:00-10:30. Breeze was calm, sky was overcast. I worked along the 60-100 feet deep plateau just north of the mouth of Converse Bay. Bounced white and silver plastic tubes and swimbaits on the bottom, also tried a large chrome spoon jigg...

Re: First time for lakers in Converse - what am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Reelax and Crayfish. It's great to get some feedback - when I'm catching fish I know I'm doing things right, but when I'm not it's hard to know why. I'll try that 50-70 foot range with my lure closer to the bottom. Reelax, I see some humps 60-90 feet deep just a little outside the bay to the...

First time for lakers in Converse - what am I doing wrong?
This morning was my first time trolling for lakers. I didn't catch any! Is there something I'm doing wrong or was this just bad luck? I went out of Converse Bay. I trolled mostly along the drop off on the west end of the bay between the big island (to the south) and the very small island (to the nor...

Re: Winooski mouth trolling late morning: no bites
Water temperature was 58 degrees on the surface. Hard to say how deep my lures were running because I wasn't using downriggers. I had thought there would be too much wood floating around and on the bottom waiting to snag the ball for downriggers to be realistic, but next time maybe that's what I'll ...

Fishing report: stocked trout in the Winooski behaving like stocked trout
Is it worth posting a report saying that stocked trout in the Winooski are biting? Well, they're biting. Jonesville area has been productive.

Winooski mouth trolling late morning: no bites
Trolled in and just outside of the mouth of the Winooski this morning. Saw some fish on the sonar but couldn't get any to bite. Started out trolling a shad rap and a silver spoon. Later tried to get some fish suspended on the bottom to bite with a drop shot but came up empty there too. Lots of other...
