Re: Grand Isle Hatchery

From what I've heard, they consider the Lamoille a self sustaining (walleye) river and thus don't need to stock it. So unfortunately that may never happen.

Re: Advice Needed - Fishing near Swanton

You can catch big pike and bass from shore with live bait as well as the lures mentioned above. A big minnow under a bobber can do the trick for pike(just let them run with it for a bit as they are known to leave the minnow in the side of their mouths for a bit). You can also toss a big Mepps spinne...

Re: Jigging or Other Methods w/o Trolling Gear?

You can always buy a drift sock and just align yourself with the wind so that you drift over the spot you are trying to fish over. You will have to reset pretty often but jigging for lakers can be very productive if you get on the right spot. And the fight is much better!

Re: Daily Bag and Size Limits

Yes this year was a late run for walleye but most of the fish being caught and posted on social media(802 Fishing on Facebook for example) were caught at the two or three "cuts" not the rivers where most people target spawning walleyes. This type of fishing is done every year and its about...

Re: "Sharpshooting Walleyes..."

If you aren't watching Aaron from Uncut Angling, you are missing out on some impressive knowledge of a young fisherman. As well as the many other youtube angling channels(In-depth Outdoors and Tom Boley come to mind). I have attempted this only once with no success but know that it will certainly wo...

Re: Boating rules

So based on that diagram, the sail boat must give way when overtaking a fishing boat?

Re: Walleye Questions

You should be fine to run glow. They don't spook as easy as you might think. Just wouldn't be running a lot of bright lights on the boat(nav lights are fine) and looking into the water with your headlamp

Re: walleyes

By no means am I saying you can't catch one 9, 10, 11+ lbs, yes and upwards of 15lbs as proven by the state record in 2010. They exist in the lake, that's for sure. But you will not see more than a couple caught in any given year. A 7lb walleye is an extremely tough fish to catch regularly for anyon...

Re: walleyes

Thanks Digitroll! Sounds like fishing structure can be productive! I'd love to hear more about those 10-11lb fish being caught out of boats. To get one around here that big it will be prespawn and most likely caught during Ice Fishing season. Here are results from the biggest walleye derbies on lake...

Here are just a few to encourage those interested in getting out there. I tried to upload some release videos but couldn't seem to figure out how to.

Re: walleyes

Sounds like we have enough walleye knowledge on here to put the major Lake Champlain walleye mystery to bed. Don't blame cormorants or stocking programs. There might not be as many walleye in the lake as back in the 70's and 80's but its called fishing for a reason, not catching. All I can say is do...

Re: walleyes

If you are spending time fishing deep open water, its like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. I'm sure he caught large fish doing this at night, as this is an old timer technique that worked extremely well in past but who wants to fish weeks at a time without a strike? Its not random that large...
