Re: Otter boat

smelt_seeker.... I fish Lake O frequently and use otter boats with weighted double keels so providing experienced feedback. The advantage of a double keel is the ability to pull and support the use of two copper lines off one otter boat. As I stated in previous response, two weighted keels will slow...

Re: Otter boat

Double keels pull harder and support double coppers or long coppers (400’ +). If using double keels, two weighted keels will sink board if it breaks off unless you modify flotation. The double keel with one weighted and one unweighted float. If using double keels, they will dive in rough water. To a...

Fish biting

Mix of salmon and lakers... mostly small but some good fish still mixed with smaller ones. Just need to fish through them....Top 40’ with honey bee’s and various other smaller profile items. Very few lamprey hits except for larger fish. Lots of unclipped lakers though.

Re: Fishhook Flea infestation

Invasive not related to run off or sewage. They consume the food needed to support alewife, perch and other fish. But researchers have seen fish populations feeding on them, so remains to be seen what the long term impact is...but been in Great Lakes for years. From NY Researchers have observed that...

Re: Willsboro Bay in late July

I have fished the bay late July into early August a few times mostly for salmon though. If temps are right you can find fish on the west side of the bay along the various cliffs. I had a couple good evenings in the south part of the bay when we had an upwelling of cold water to keep them in the bay....

Re: I love lake Champlain

Button Bay State Park to Scotch Bonnett to Mile Point was loaded with bait and 16"-19" salmon a week ago... 15' to 30' over 80-100. There are some deeper spots close to shore where this would be in casting range between Scotch Bonnett and Mile Point likely.

Re: Bait/depth for salmon

I fished the Converse to Whallons area for the next few days after the event with a buddy and can confirm we caught salmon down to 110' while we were catching small lakers at 60'. Update - it was 52+ at surface and 51+ degree's 100 down. Most of the salmon we caught we in location to bait as one wou...

Re: Hot Laker Bite

In early August, each piece of structure south of Juniper held 6-12 pd lakers...85-90 on bottom seemed to produce with the most consistency. So many that they were hard to get away from as they often came out of temp to 50' to grab spoons intended for salmon.

Re: NEW MOTTLED COLORS

Fished first week of August out of Thompson's area. Didn't do anything on mottled but did land a few on large purple/pink/gold and cerise/gold trout patterns. Plenty of bait but temps were all over the place with all the wind changes. Had to run large patterns to keep the perch and shaker salmon off...

Re: Downrigger Rod?????

Okuma Blue Diamond 7'6" or Okuma Convector 7'6" are a good rod for 8-12 lb light action downrigger trolling. They can support small diving discs or 10' jet divers. Beyond that, you would need to move up to 8' or 8'6" and above depending on situation. Flat line, planer board, spoon/plu...

Re: Late Fall "Structures"

Bonus fish can be taken in the prop wash this time of year even if you are targeting them 25' down. I've witnessed the cookie cutter salmon swim into the wash and around the eddy created by the boat on the surface when visibility was good. One trick is to rig a rod with a 1/4 to 3/8 oz keel sinker, ...

Re: Late Fall "Structures"

A down wind pass with boards will probably work well if you control speed. Too shallow for slide divers where we found best success 4-7 ft of water. We had some success trolling with wind but casting to cruising fish if you could see in the waves and blind casting worked best for us...almost like fi...
