Re: Shore fishing a trout pond

Very nice Matt. I give you credit for getting out there no matter the weather. Part of the reason you get results, I"m sure.

Re: Interesting story from Maine....

In Yellowstone Lake (in the Natn'l Park) Lake Trout are an invasive species and were well on their way to wiping out native Cutthroats before biologists intervened. I believe the biologists put radio transmitters in Lake Trout which enabled them to identify what locations they were using for spawnin...

Re: Salmon fishery

With the abundance of lakers there is no doubt a forage issue. The lakers are eating the salmon. They eat their own, why wouldn't they eat the salmon. The larger lakers also have a preference for larger prey, hence the lower salmon numbers. I seldom fish Lake Champlain but do fish lakers elsewhere a...

Re: Salmon fishery

I'll suggest that the lake trout are eating the salmon, hence the lower numbers. IMO, Lake Trout will feed on smaller prey (smelt, alewive) until they reach a certain size, then they transition from wanting a snack, to wanting and eating a meal. A large lake trout will eat a 20 inch salmon with no t...

Use nail polish Matt. Not as good as a powder coat but its easy and comes in a myriad of colors. Then you can give it to Alana (sp?) to do her nails. :-)

Re: Ice Fishing

Went to Lake George Wednesday (14th) off of Hearthstone. Friend caught one laker and we caught about a half dozen perch. Very slow day. Talking to others, it seemed they experienced about the same. If we don't get another cold snap its going to be an early ice out this year I think.

Re: White Perch run is on!

Is there an area on the NY side where the white perch congregate in the spring before ice out? In that they are an invasive, I wouldn't think these locations would be closely held. Also, from what I read on the regulations, NY and VT licenses are reciprocal on LC except for the Inland Sea. So if I'm...

Re: North panfish ??

I had some luck right in Plattsburgh bay/harbor last week if you want to fish there. You can access it right next to the marina. I caught perch in the bay created by the breakwater, but I wouldn't venture past the end of the breakwater. The ice dropped from about 6 to 8 inches down to 3 inches when ...

Re: North panfish ??

A long time ago (decades) they used to drive on the lake at Chazy Landing. Not sure if they still do that or not. They were targeting perch I believe.

Re: Hard water

I was out on Plattsburgh Bay on Tuesday. 6 - 8 inches of ice (half white, half black) until you got out to the end of the barrier, then it was 3 inches of black ice so I didn't press my luck by venturing further. Caught some perch that you had to work some to get. Caught about 6 dinks for every keep...

Ice Fishing

Any ice fishermen/women on here? Amazed there isn't a big thread on it with all the hard water anglers out there on LC. I was on Plattsburgh Bay on Tuesday and got into some perch. Had to work a bit for them but found them in 12 - 15 ft of water. For every keeper there were about 6 dinks caught. The...
