Re: Is slow trolling with a main engine detrimental?
I will never be without a kicker. Especially how many of us fish way before and after the crowds leave the lake for the year. It may be a slow trip back to the launch but it's a trip.

I can say from experience never try to bump the bottom with shark weights, it was a costly mistake!

Re: New To Lake Trout Trolling
I drag bottom on lake George once you loose a few hundred in cannon balls and cables you will have an area learned. Lakers aren't picky they like loud obnoxious baits in ugly colors. And they don't want to chase them. If I'm on level bottom I'll drop the balls in the mud come up a crank or 2 and ke...

Re: lead line
It's already been said but go to heavier core, I use 27lb. The heavier lb test cores sink faster and have more resistance going through the water and adds more tension to the hook until you can get the board off and have it on the rod. Also you don't need as much mono. I don't use any mono just 25ft...

Just checked I have 8/0 and 10/0. They are very big I have a pic here for comparison but can't remember how to post it from this damn iPhone.

Re: fishing for catfish and bowfins
Big, the bigger the better, I will have to look but I want to say 6/0. For catfish my favorite bait is shrimp and I snake a circle inside a jumbo shrimp. Catfish have big mouths and aren't line or hook shy so no need to use small hooks.

Re: fishing for catfish and bowfins
Yup let'em run and then add some pressure and stand pulling them in. In the last 10 years of using circles I don't think I have gut hooked 5 fish. I never used them until I was stationed down south and started fishing saltwater, for whatever reason they were way ahead of us on the circle's and I qui...

Re: Looking for Lake George Report / Advice
I watch the sunrise almost every time I fish LG. I hate the inspections but it's really not a big deal and if it even slows the inevitable fleas I don't complain about it.

Re: fishing for catfish and bowfins
if i'm not using a lure I use circle hooks. there is not a negative to them and many positives. I dont see myself ever using a J hook or treble for bait fishing again. this winter I even went to circles on my tip-ups and dead sticks and my hookup ratio improved.

Re: load core setup
Last summer one of my hottest set ups were 4 color core with a 3oz dive bomb clipped on the 1st color. On my fishhawk td it got me around 30-35ft. It is a dynomite set up especially on boards because it rises and falls so much in turns on board. Clip on weights aren't talked about much but they are ...
