That seems to happen to me a lot. My theory is that they try to body slam my dodger and then get snagged by the hook. It's never happened with a salmon.digitroll (ron) wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 4:00 am
The Laker from Wednesday came in sideways and a dead weight!

Re: Tagged laker
Forgot… the orange Michigan Stinger was what caught 90% of the fish. Saw it on a Maine forum this past spring a guy was slamming salmon on it. No salmon for me but the lakers loved it!! It’s in the Stingray size. My personal opinion is that the spoon is appears a little large for our LC salmon. I t...

Re: First leadcore setup - how many colors?
I almost always run one leadcore year round. It's the first line out and typically I have a guest run it out as I set up the riggers. I typically run about 6 to 8 colors out. I think I'm only getting about 15 ft of depth due to my speed and setup. So when we're running deep with the riggers we alway...

Trailer inspection??? What's that? Don't remind me! https://i.postimg.cc/YSByB8Br/PXL-20211211-003134276.jpg I had a clean record until that time back in 2003. Towing my boat to Mallet's Bay. I'm like a common criminal with a record that will be with me for the rest of my life and all because...

Re: Silver search Saturday
Matt, thx for the report out. Have only taken the Black Ghost out a couple of times this season, last time being several Sundays ago. We noticed the lack of adult salmon. Got all excited to see the lead core bouncing. Turns out that was a laker too which I almost never get that shallow. I'll see you...

Re: Back on the pond. 1st trip of Oct
Cousin Jeff and I got out on the Black Ghost on Sunday. We met the NH fleet at the launch and chatted occasionally on the radio. Our luck wasn't great with only one salmon (14") and a decent laker. We had a good tangle from a rogue fish that we never boarded. It's been a while and it was good t...

Good luck out there Chad. I hope to get out there soon myself - now that sugaring Season is wrapped up. I also noticed that you are on the other forum I follow - mapletrader where I'm taptaptap from Pumpkin Hill Maple. I hope the 2021 fishing season is a lot better than the maple season!

Re: 2020 shakedown cruise
Fairly good salmon action today out off Split Rock and Thompsons although we only scored a single laker. Our trouble was some equipment failures and novice mistakes as the fish approached the net. But our biggest equipment failure was the the 150 Mercury that powers the Black Ghost. It turned out to...

Re: Open water?
My guess is that even if we could launch that we'd be fighting ice floes. February (tomorrow) isn't typically good for launching or fishing unless we have relatively mild weather throughout the Frostbite Season. Does anyone remember that last extended run of mild weather? Oh, by the way - I just cam...

And Scott - I'm heading to San Diego at the end of January on the way to Cabo San Lucas. I was disappointed to hear that its the wrong time of year for Rooster on the Fly from the beaches. I've only got one free day in Cabo and I wasn't convinced it would be worth a guided trip by boat for these fis...

Re: Winter Dates?
Yes, it's good to be back. It has been a year since being on the water. Sherry and I built a house and I had no time for any other kind of fun. It's amazing what goes into building a house! Who would have thought? But it was worth it. No longer a suburbanite. I'm living like a true Vermonter.
