Re: Fish Finder advice.
I have an older model Lowrance portable that uses 8 AA batteries....epoxyed transducer to bottom to shoot thru the hull, accessed inside bottom through a storage port. Mounted fish finder on a ram mount that fits in Scotty Rod Holder base. It is not the best, but it does have GPS and tells you depth...

Re: fishing for salmon and browns near home on shore
Nice fish, glad to hear the bite is beginning.. 8-) You can't control the weather (especially wind) The fact you were dealing with that may have explained the stick bait bite (speed, presentation and depth) :?: . I agree with Fishy, double trebles are not the best for catch and release....but...

Re: New to the site
Hi and welcome...You may want to check into some old posts for tips...lots to review for sure....Most people here are very helpful with equipment suggestions...The trout and salmon tactics section is rather new but it has a lot of info, I'd start there and then check fishing reports...best of luck.

Re: Why do little stick baits work better than spoons in the spring for salmon??
A lot of stick baits make quite a racket/rattle compared to a spoon... noise could be part of it?! Or on rattleless baits, subtle wobble and minimal water displacment compared to some spoons. Spoons always seemed to work just as well for me in shallow water, trout fishing in rivers and streams wher...

Matt, that is one happy little girl, and I'm sure one proud Grandpa...Nice perch! From those pix it looks like you were out of the wind there, a big plus. Can't wait for a warm up, want to hit the lake soon, did you say the ice is out in Port Henry and the "bay"???

One last time
Not unlike ChessieMan, I hadn't fished in a while so I needed a "Fishin' Fix"... I was looking forward to the Stripper Season which starts this week but when a friend told he had some safe access to get on Lake George for a last hard water trip, I said I was all in. The weather was fantast...

Does the whole lake look low Matt? And if so do you think the snow pack melting will be enough to bring it up?

Re: Scout Motto - BE PREPARED
Check those tires...any cracks, pressure right, uneven tread wear, do you have a spare and are wheel bearings greased??? Anything you needed on the boat last year that you should have had but forgot to add/replace??? Do you have an inventory of the stuff you actually have on the boat to what you sho...

Re: walleyes
As I said in a poster earlier in this thread, I started fishing Champlain as a kid not for the cold water species but the warm water stuff (mainly because there wasn't really any), especially walleye. We mostly ice fished for them but it was the "right of spring" as Fishy 1 indicated that ...

Re: Bait/depth for salmon
You don't need the kit in the early part of the year, the kit would go too deep...the standard lite bite is fine. You can get depth running info on line which varies with the type/pound test you use. The info I found doesn't list a lot of different lines but will get you in the ball park. The Fish H...
