Re: Looking to start a new BASS club in the Burlington Area
I don't know how these things work not being a fan of tournaments, but according to the VT fish and wildlife website there are 110 tournaments already scheduled for this summer on champlain, by my count almost 40% of them are on the northern and central part of the lake. I know not all will be open ...

Re: Does slow trolling with your big engine hurt it?
That's probably similar to what I'm talking about. In this case, I'm talking about a much larger engine with a much larger pricetag--price out a new 200hp outboard, it's a more than a little scary to contemplate an engine popping or just going south prematurely because someone didn't know to do X, Y...

Re: Does slow trolling with your big engine hurt it?
Thanks very much--youtube is blocked on the server here at work so I had to watch at home. The video is specific to 4-strokes, it actually doesn't address 2stroke engines that I saw. The advice I received was specific to 2-strokes, so I'm curious what you have to say about whether this applies to ca...

Re: Does slow trolling with your big engine hurt it?
I don’t troll but I do use my scanning sonars a lot so I’ve wondered about it a bit. In your opinion does this apply equally to carbed, EFI or DFI 2-strokes as well as 4-strokes? Not suggesting you’re wrong, you’d certainly know better than most, but I’ve heard multiple mercury-certified master mech...

Re: Software - Which One?
Andre, could you comment on the raw data that is used to arrive at the 1' contours in the Navionics sonarcharts for Champlain? I have been lead to believe that the maps are based on existing nautical charts or low-definition survey and that the 1' contours are not actually measured to that accuracy,...

Re: Software - Which One?
The lakemaster charts are nicer than navionics, but only where they have high-definition mapping. Lakemaster does NOT have high-def mapping on Champlain, which renders the maps all but useless for anything other than seeing general areas of generic depths--you lose the resolution needed to find smal...

Re: trolling motor power
1500lb boat I think you will be woefully underpowered with 40lb thrust. My 17' lund (1200lb hull) came with a 55lb and even that was minimal--I mainly fish for smallies, and while I would have a hard time in a strong current or in very strong wind, it was fine most of the time as long as my battery ...

Re: Apple island state launch
Is the launch actually open, or are people just parking there? I’ve put in there a couple times recently, and while each time there were plenty of people parked in the lot the “do not park beyond the boundary” signs were still clearly up on the fence every 20 feet. On one of those occasions people w...
Re: Navionics
I have been following this feature because there are a number of smaller lakes I fish sometimes that have no charts at all available—waterbury reservoir and green river reservoir would be two local examples. I love the idea of being able to make a lake map for a lake where no map at all exists, but ...

It doesn't appear there is any info anywhere I can find about an exact opening date--does anyone know the best way to check when they are going to open this?

Re: Lowrance Elite 7 DSI
If you’re getting bad sonar readings in very deep water it may be a setting not a problem with the unit. I’ve noticed this too around thompsons point. I have birds now and have not seen it on these, but on my lowrance mark 5’s it would do this nearly every time. I don’t really fish over water that d...

Re: South Hero Launch Update - inland Sea
I use the launch at the Ladd's Landing Marina all the time, as I keep my sailboat there. It's shallow and a steep ramp, with little parking for trailers. There is a parking fee for using the ramp, but there is a dock. Sure wish we had better access places around here. The "launch" on the ...

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking at these pictures on the NOAA website, but it looks like you posted this several days before it appeared there. I looked online and can't find anywhere to access images elsewhere. Where are you finding us?

shelburne bay boat launch--water level?
Anyone put in at Shelburne bay recently? I'm wondering about the water level, how is it putting in and getting out into the lake right now?
