Thanks for the report... we like to fish in that area too. Would like to see those little salmon get a big fatter! Maybe a good sign for the future.

Re: Just when you thought you had the Salmon figured out.
Nice and diverse catch. I'd welcome a bit of diversity after catching so many small salmom over the last few weeks. While larger salmon offer a sporting time, the small ones seem pretty timid.

Re: juniper ledge
Thank you for the report... good to see some nice lakers coming up again. Earlier in the season all we caught was 6-10lb lakers, and then it seemed to flip to only smallish Salmon with very few lakers.. I hope the fall season brings both!

Re: Downrigger woes solved - Thank you, and short report 9/1
Thanks for the reminder to clean up our equipment and boats. I found the following on the Adirondak explorer website: Prevent the Spread of Spiny Water Flea INSPECT & CLEAN your fishing, boating and other water recreation equipment and gear. Remove all mud, plants and other organisms that might ...

Downrigger woes solved - Thank you, and short report 9/1
Guys, thanks for all of the tips on using the downriggers (other thread).. they seemed to have solved our issues. We boated over a dozen salmon yesterday, with the biggest being over 4 pounds and quite and aerial acrobat! We catch and release so we try to get them back in the water fast, so no pics....

Re: SPINY WATER FLEAS... PORT KENT.... PIC
Spiny water fleas update.. Way up at Ferris Rock on Monday 9/1. We found our downrigger cables loaded with spiny water fleas on Monday while fishing out around Ferris Rock.. Oddly enough, just moving between Schuyler Island and NY Mainland we found zero fleas. In any case, heading north fast. Terri

Re: Sunday 8/24/14; Cumberland head
That reminds me, we haven't done our once yearly stop to the turtle... We've never fished around Cumberland for trout or salmon, but have found some nice smallmouth on the humps.. We'll have to give it a try.

Re: FIshing around Schuyler/Willsboro and a mystery
Guys, thanks for all of the suggestions and help, we hope to head out again tomorrow if the winds are less than hurricane force! For the time being we're going to loose the dodgers and flashers are go simple for a while to get some experience on these down riggers.

Re: Moose look
Mr Esox, we use Mooselook's, as well as many other brands. For Salmon the 1/6 oz seem to work, and I've nabbed some lakers on the bigger 1/4 oz.
I just ordered a batch of Mooselook's from Cabelas (they were on sale).

Nice setup Lavman, and that seems like an up and coming captain!Lavman wrote:Here we have the 4 rod program in play, slide divers on each side set to swim away from the boat and two riggers straight out the back

Re: FIshing around Schuyler/Willsboro and a mystery
Guys, thanks for all of the posts. I like the idea of a simple approach. I like that Fish Ron was holding onto as well! That's some setup as well! We just had to go out last evening and try 'simpler'... a bit late as we went out at 5pm, but a beautiful evening nonetheless. Our first hit around Schuy...

Re: FIshing around Schuyler/Willsboro and a mystery
Thanks Lavman and Wayne, we're going to nix the flashers for now.. and move the lures a little farther back of the balls and see what happens.
Thanks again,
Terri

Re: FIshing around Schuyler/Willsboro and a mystery
This is very relevant thread for me as well. We washed lures for several hours Sunday morning with no luck at all. We run two manual downriggers and two slide diver lite bites. For the first time I tried stacking two more lures on the main line of one downrigger and tried attaching a set of spoons ...
