Re: Line and leaders

15 lb. braided and 6-7 feet of 8 lb. fluorocarbon leader connected by a small barrel swivel, both with Palomar knots. I use 9 foot rods so the swivel doesn't hang up on the tip. I'm curious, I use a swivel to attach terminal lures. Some folks I know tie the lure directly to the leader. Do you folks ...

Re: If you can believe this...

Nice catch Butcher. You're right about given enough time strange things happen. In August 2012 I was trolling a half mile off Garden Is. and hooked a 5 lb. class salmon with a Rapala running at about 6 ft. I was just goofing off with the Rapala as I only had 1 lead line for my deep troll. Just goes ...

Re: Sign of theTimes?

FWIW my "area" of concentration is the mouth of Converse to TF Bay, Split Rock and Whallon Bay. I just hooked my first salmon of the season yesterday, throwing the hook on its 4th dance. I was thrilled to see it and didn't mind not netting the 2-3 lb.'er. I started fishing for salmon in 20...

Re: First spring report...Converse

My white and pearl Needlefish has been pretty hot last year and this, snagging roughly 75% of my releases. Has anyone seen them in the shops? I'm down to my last one after getting 2 at the now-closed Classic Outfitters. Jim didn't have any last year and the big boxes are barren of good spoons.

First Outing 2017 Finally

For once the forecast had at least a few hours of light wind during my "prime time" yesterday. I was 2 for 2, 16" & 20" lakers off Garden and Thompson's, both on my Walker diver and white & pearl Needlefish 75 back and 30 down. No releases on the downrigger with several c...

Windy Spring

By now I would have been out on the lake at least 6 times. Little Santiago is waiting patiently in the driveway for the first day under 8 knots and no rain. Maybe I'll spend more time reacquainting myself with the mid-Winooski.

Catalina Filets

Rub any fileted fish with a generous amount of Catalina dressing on both sides. Season both sides with Old Bay seasoning and put in the kitchen range broiler as close to the heat source as possible. Do not turn over. Once the dressing has become blackened the filet should be done, usually about 5 mi...

Re: Finally a kind Converse

Thanks...I come from Richmond, I met you on the dock last year one morning. You were waiting for your wife and I had the Duroboat 12 waiting out a t-storm over in Essex. My late starts are due to my laziness and my morning breakfast & Free Press.

Finally a kind Converse

Started out bright and early Wednesday at 9:30. Up to now I took 30 hours to go 1 for 3. 20ft down with a string of spinners off the ball tail, 3 ft up and 10 ft back trolled a rainbow Needlefish. 10:00 a 6 lb laker, 10:30 a screaming release but wasn't fast enough to the handle. My guess was a very...

Re: windy morning

Nice catch TU, sorry you lost the big one. I listened to the forecast Sunday nite and got lite to 10 for wind. Got up the earliest yet this season; 5AM. Got to Converse at 7 and saw the moored sailboats bouncing in the chop. Me and my Duroboat 12L headed home. Been there and done that too many times...
