'10 LCI Derby on Reelax.. Theresa's big Brown

Post by Reelax »

Got to fish the LCI this year with my wife Theresa..
Launched out of Apple Island all weekend, and had a great time.. The sunrise was a nice sight..
Image
We fished mainly in the southern Inland Sea..
The weather on the 1st day was a little bumpy..
I had a real nice brown on the 1st morning and lost it at the net.. (It was so windy, Theresa had to drive, and I failed the self netting job miserably!) :P
By the end of the 1st day we had worked hard for the 2 for 4 results. We did bring one home to eat..
Image
The second day was not much better for us than the 1st..
I think we went 2 for 3 that day and they weren't much size... Theresa was not impressed this this little guy...
Image

Day 3 started much like the last 2.. Slow, very slow...
But the weather was a little more enjoyable...
We weren't marking much between 80-105ft FOW...
Then we moved to deeper water and though we
weren't marking any bait balls we were seeing some
lone fish suspended between 30 and 80ft.
As we worked the 105 to 120ft range, I picked up a
salmon around 11:40am.
He hit on the Money lure from previous posts..
(as had 3 of 4 salmon to date, along with the big
Brown dropped on day 1)

Judging from my face, you can tell, it has been a long derby
by this point, with little to show for it. (fished over 25 hrs
for 7 salmon at this point!

Then....... WHAM.... The center slide diver running at 238ft
line out goes off..
Theresa had given me the previous fish to try to help my mood, so this one was obviously hers...
It takes line right off, and Theresa looks to have a corker on.
I grab the camera and film a 6min 20 sec video that is a treasure.. (515meg, can't post cause wont fit on photobucket)

The fish stayed down and didn't act like a salmon, ended up being beautiful brown.
I was able to film and net this one as Theresa did a
great job tiring him enough to make it work.
It weighed between 5#11oz and 6# on the boat scales,
so I we decided it weigh it in for the LCI.
It was picked up running 2.3mph on GPS,
slide diver probably running over 50ft deep,
fish hit over 115ft of water on a black, and white hi-tec
with a purple stripe... (thanks for the lure suggestion Jusfishin)

After a quick pick up and run back to Apple Island..
Theresa is all smiles, with her big fat Brown Trout..

Of course a fish like this...
Needs to be shown to Theresa's sponsor (thanks Ben!)..
So we stopped by Dockside on the way home...

All in all, this fish turned our derby around...
Though it was .1oz from placing 10th in the salmon category when we weighed it in... It looks to possibly have been the biggest brown weighed in for the LCI (no other Browns in top 10).. Since this was Theresa's 1st lake Champlain Brown, and he was such a beautiful fish, we decided to drop him off to Doug Yazsner be mounted.. Now he will live on the wall forever...

We ended up a total of 8 for 12 during the 3 days, with 6 salmon,
one steelhead, and the fatty brown....

Congradulations Theresa, on a fine job and a fine fish!

Once again, we have the time of our life on this little 'ol pond
we call Champlain! My, my.... are we all soooo blessed...

Tight lines a to all!
