SPINY WATER FLEAS... PORT KENT/BURLINGTON PICS
The little buggers are indeed here. I fished the Port Kent area today and several times observed Fleas bunched up on the main lines. Invisa Swivels, barrel swivels & cheaters kept them away from the spoons. Guess it was only a matter of time.
BURLINGTON HARBOR AREA YESTERDAY (Sat Sept 13, '14)
Line was in the water about 45 minutes

Yup...Those are the same that match my pictures. Dang it anyway.
They didn't seem to be too much of a problem at their current levels, but I don't want more!
Fished all around Juniper, North and South and encountered them.

That's unfortunate. It certainly didn't seem to take them long to migrate up the lake from where they entered in the southern portion.

Dealing with these in Lake Ontario, is a tough job! I really hope they don't get as bad here! Guys run like 50lb test Mono to shake them off and that doesn't even work great! Braided line is a joke with these. I spent prob. 15 min picking off a dipsy
Great they are a pain! One more thing to irritate me!

This is bad news! It bothers me that the state seems clueless as to what is going on in this lake

The little buggers can be a real pain, seems like wire and braid will fend them off most times..30 lb test mono works too...Little heavy for this lake..Seems like border lakes have the most trouble getting their respective states involved in problem...from what I've heard there are no predators for these creatures.. Heard from a 3rd party so not sure if this is hard cold fact, but these little guys can kill certain minnow species, that feed on them herring disappearing makes one wonder..

I also came back from lake ontario this past weekend (selkirk shores). I have never seen fleas so bad.The dipsey diver rod was so bad I couldn't reel it all the way in.

One benefit of Spring fishing on Lake Ontario or Champlain now (flea issues) will be the fleas aren't around the Spring time of year.Wellsley (Frank) wrote:Phantom (griz) wrote:I just came back from Lake Ontario and had to deal with these things. This is not going to be a good thing.

We don't see them in Lake Huron which is kind of interesting in August in the last 14 years.

Braided line they cling to! Use the steal or Mono. seems somewhat better to shake them off!
