IS still full of dead alewives

Post by flyguy »

Hit the IS today for new gear shakedown and prospecting. The whole place was full of dead alewives (again), even up north. WT's to 54, marking fish, but no takers. Tried skinny and top of deep. Nada. Good to see CHawk out there - (didn't hear him, 'cause he has a 115 4-stroke, too) :) Fished all afternoon, too, here and there (wherever there weren't so many floating alewives), but none of the old standby May spots produced. On the bright side, it was a beautiful day and all of the gear checked out a-OK. Trolling with the bags, was able to get her down to 1.2 downwind. Get 'em next time!

Ditto beaucoup dead alewives North West Bay off of Westport from the launch to The Narrows NY side. A seagull/osprey/bald eagle feast unfolding before us. Scads of fresh dead and fungus & rotted bait everywhere. That white on the shoreline isn't snow!! It's birds and bird doo. Skunkhorns for us as well today, six hours out with a late start. Didn't mark many suspended and no takers all the way to Split Rock and around Whallon Bay and return. But a beautiful day and only a little puff to deal with. All suggestions to improve our luck would be appreciated.
