Bassmaster Elite Series comes to the St Lawrence River

Post by voyager »

Looking for a road trip in a couple of weeks? The Bassmaster Elite series next tournament will be held on the St Lawrence river at Waddington NY from Aug 8-11. That's right, Waddington, no longer just the Carp fishing capital of the world. ;) Two and a half hour drive from Burlington, two hours from Montreal. Check it out.....

That's right Gerry, plenty of Walleyes too. I made some nice catches this past spring, but haven't gone after them lately. I'm also looking forward to October for some Musky fishing.

Half of the participant's got cut after day 2 yesterday. 50 left, only 12 go on to tomorrow. Watching these guys is a lot of fun. Surprising how accessible everyone is. Obviously you can walk right up to their rigs!

Nope, placed #15. Only the top 12 fishing today. His nephew Jonathan is currently 2nd. The leaders are bringing in 5 fish bags weighing over 20lbs. Some monster smallies being caught.

Last day of the action. Final 12 launch on to the St Lawrence....

10 minutes to weigh-in and the G-man is still fishing in my back yard!

At the weigh-in....Ott Defoe sends 'em packing

Sorry Ott, Jonathan VanDam's got ya beat.....

Brandon Palanuik takes the trophy!

Wow, the whole event was great. I got loads of free stuff, met a few of the anglers, went for a 60mph blast down the St Lawrence in a new Skeeter bass boat with a 250hp Yammy on it, tried out new Shimano and G Loomis tackle, got a wicked sunburn, and....I think I'm now a Bassmasters fan.....all in Waddington NY...who knew?

A very good time....I was never more than casually interested in this stuff, but when you're there you can really get swept up in the activity.

sounds like a busy time in good ole Waddington, great for local buisness i know the world championship carp tournaments used draw many. the St. lawrence is a hell of a fishery. been hunting the area for over 25 years now. a cabin at the river view is home from October threw the 2nd week in Dec. every year. Can't beat breakfast at the hometown diner in Madrid. lol

cool to have the big show in your back yard, thanks for sharing.

oh, what did Forbare do with his cow barge i didn't see it in your pics where he usually docks it?

He beached the barge Ogden island. One of the craziest things ever. Let me know when you're over this way. We can get together for a drink at Murray's or something.
