2025 DYP derby results

Post by Reelax »

Congratulations goes out to Shaun Crawford (Crayfish) and Kevin Camera (Amfishfulthinking) for the win with a beautiful 23” 4.34lb male salmon at today’s event.

As has been evident recently the bite was slow and the fleet worked hard for every fish…
All boats made it out in variable conditions and the BBQ was a great success due to the food provided by the whole fleet.

Graham from UVM was able to join us for the bbq and get bait samples from 3 salmon brough in. (Thanks for helping with this important bait study!)

Thanks to all who participated and attended.

Fish on!

I still can't believe that Kevin and I won! Of course, I had a prior winner on my boat so I should have had more confidence. ;)

Thank you so much to Reelax, Homewrecker, Greenhorn,
CountryAnger, Ludo, and Ave (Steelie) Joe for all of your help to put this great derby on! It's always a lot of fun to see all of the contestants at the BBQ, and the random people at the launch that join in the festivities.

Well done!

Thanks for the frustratingly fun day on the water with this event. I'm thankful that it continues on.

Thank you Graham for coming out and helping compile data that will hopefully push for a better Salmon fishery here on Champlain. Guys, we can only help ourselves if we can support these efforts and spread the word to fellow fishermen about providing these samples!

The hail storm was an exciting ending to the day as I navigated North, we broke camp just in time. Tight lines until we do it again.

Rescued in the eleventh hour by Paul as the Homewrecker is having some electrical issues. Weather was moderately extreme but we stuck it out and pushed the skunk off the boat with PB small salmon. Congrats to Sean and Kevin on a solid win.

Thanks again for another great event! Always a good time when you are in the presence of so many passionate fishermen!

The Mistress is as enjoyable to ride as you would expect, thanks Pat!

Props to Gram for donning weight belt and mask during BBQ to dive for a strangers sunk keys at dock.

Great.....I have to see Kevin struttin at work for the next year until he can be dethroned.....again.

Thanks Matt, Dean and others who make the DYP happen! What a cool low(er) pressure derby to participate in and get to meet new fellow fish heads. I had the pleasure of fishing with Steely Joe for the first time and we managed to put fish in the boat, just the wrong species. We ran longlines with bullet weights back 120’, riggers with sliding cheaters and diver rods. We caught a total of 3 lakers, one on a slide diver out 110’, one on a cheater on a rigger set at 50’ and another on a rigger I dropped right on top of a mark at 60’ just to confirm it was grease we were seeing on the fish machine. We missed two releases over by Split Rock while we were jawboning in the torrential downpours and not paying attention, you all know how that goes!
I too want to thank Graham for his hard work with his salmon study and his diligence coming to the launches time and again despite the slow bite. Without folks like him we would never figure out what our fishery is doing and what needs to be done to improve it. All we need to do next is figure out how to get him to stay in VT once he finishes his doctorate degree 8-)
See you all back out on the pond!
Pat
