Wife and I are headed to Alaska this Coming week little brother bought a retirement house on the Kenai and the Sockeye (reds) and Coho (silvers) are active:) hope for some good pics and stories… Due to the reduced numbers and size in the river the last couple seasons the Kings (Chinook) Are off limits and you need to cut any off as soon as you can verify species.

Brother has been sending me picks of fishing the Cooke inlet and some salmon from the lower section of the river… He said the freezers are full so come hungry…Good eating:)

Fish on!

Have a riot! It's not hard to do there.
I spent 3 awesome years there back in the 80's and surly had a blast. Fishing, hunting, clamming, hiking, canoeing, camping, sight seeing, flying, smoking' fish, and so much more. Your gonna LOVE IT!

RAZ - Awesome pictures and a great experience.

Reelax - I've fished Alaska on several expedition kayak trips and from a few fly in private lodges. Aleutians, Prince William Sound, Katmai, and down to Juneau. It is EPIC however you do it. Almost 20 years ago, we took our kids for a family trip to Sitka, Baranoff and Admiralty, and we had a ball fishing halibut, lingcod, salmon, dollies, black cod, and even a few rainbows. My kids loved it, and we caught some BIG fish. They lived in rain gear and rubber boots (Juneau sneakers), and carried Bear Spray (while Dad and our guides carried something heavier.) We caught shrimp too, but never did the clams. You'll gain some weight, bring some rain gear, ignore the travel distance, fish the tides, carry bear protection and enjoy! I wish I could join you! Jealous!

My Friend Tom and I took trips to the Kenai three years running 2005,06,07.
We flew to Anchorage and rented a van then stayed in B&B's and traveled around using a book with all Alaska drainages & the book Mileposts. The whole experience was a tru life event.

The Kenai drainage has lots of adventure. We used fly rods only and we in the hunt for big Rainbows.
The bead system was like fishing with a grenade. Bears were prolific especially on the Russian River in Sterling .

Would love to do it again in my next life.....
