Narrow cone angles are recommended for bottom fishing. The very narrow coverage angles in the direction of movement of scanning sonars is also a way to overcome the blind spot effect.

I like the 83 kHz setting on my Lowrance for targeting (custom depths entered at 20-100 feet on my HDS-7) in search of suspended fish and bait. The 200 kHz example vs. the 50 kHz is a great example for showing the difference at the bottom for folks targeting that area. Great topic Andre! This would be a great thread to be included in the tips and tactics new section!

People ask why I run a split screen showing both transducers... This is why...
