NEW WEATHER BUOY in INLAND SEA

A new weather buoy has been deployed in the Inland Sea by Tom Manley and his Middlebury College team on the DAVID FOLGER yesterday. The information is updated each 15 min and will be another valuable resource for all boaters & anglers in the Inland Sea

The coordinates are
44.785 N (44°47'6" N)
73.258 W (73°15'29" W)

Location is approx 2.2SM NE of the Grand Isle Draw Bridge

Interesting data already being reported. The current speed and direction is cool, interesting to look at and see how variable it is, right now there is a spot that shows a 1kt current down 16ft, and 30 minutes prior that current was only .14kt.

?? I see water temp a 40 ft. or meters but no surface water temp. Am I just confused.
Great to have a buoy on the IS.

Hi Dick, it looks like the water temp is recorded at 1meter (3.3ft). It would definitely be nice if it gave the temp at more depths like the SUNY bouy off Plattsburgh.

I don't understand how they will keep track of the thermocline if they don't have water temps at a variety of depths?

If you use the GREAT LAKES BUOYS link, Popsters first link, http://greatlakesbuoys.org/station_page ... tion=45166 you'll notice instructions on the right side of the page on how to text to get the latest observations. I tried it and received immediate results.

Wow, really cool! I wish we had one at Diamond Island and one at Colchester Reef. The wave height and period is very useful.
