On friday the 6th/7th I'm heading over to albany area to do a bit of striper fishing. I've gone about 4 times now and launch out of henry hudson Town park just south of the city. Great safe free park and nice ramps and parking is good. It closes though at about 9pm so carefull if you use it. Generally i live bait fish with herring or chunk bait and had good luck at times, but was reading a bit about trolling and want to try it if slow.

Could anyone offer up any general advice as a place to start. I know it can very day to day but any advice would be appreciated.

troll with-> plugs?spoons?live? size, general colors, do you use a downriggers? Should i let them way back or tight to ball?
Good place to start on depth?

Thanks all

Jim

I don't know about trolling but I know if you get close to the horseshoe dam and put a large plug up next to it it gets crushed :D The bouys that say danger, stay out, posted get in the way to some spectacular fishing

So that's what I've been doing wrong... Not ignoring the Keep out, Danger, Warning signs. I should have known the fish would hide there!!

When you say large plug are you talking 4 inches? or something like what I would use off shore 8+inch magnums?

JIm,

Try some of the lipped plugs, or, larger stick baits that we'd use down at the ocean. Also a Bunker Spoon.
I don't think anyone has tried trolling a tube rig.

I see a guy with a large 8+ white red head plug catch one a cast at the dam. I double anchor legally at the boy line and had three runs & one hook up last time I went a few years ago. Fun anchoring in the fast water :D

I know a guy who has caught them trolling a tube rig from his kayak.
