Finally... Feb 5, 2012

Post by raz »

Cathy and I finally managed a trip out onto the ice to jig some perch.
It didn't matter what we thru down the hole, we were bound to catch a hungry yellow perch.
Perch eyes, maggots, minnows, or Miller Lite.

We kept 50, let a hundred or so go. No master angler class fish...the best being 11-1/4".
Good to see the fish clean, free of worms, and brightly colored.
A couple good meals to share with family.

Interestingly...one of the fish I cleaned had this Sculpin in its belly.

A beautiful day on Lake Champlain.

Glad to hear you hit them hard yesterday. Everyone I talked with yesterday said the bite was slow. Three of us ran 31 tip-ups off Sandbar beach. Started at the drop-off in 40 feet and ran them back to shore. Jigged for a while in 80+ feet of water then worked our way to shallower water. Caught two perch the size of the bait we were using for Salmon. Had one flag in 10 feet of water and hooked this 30" 7.5 pound Laker. Slow day but what a day to be out there!

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will go buy a boat.

Looks like good times!! :D Was a beautiful bright sunny weekend to be out thats for sure! Glad the perch were clean. I got a half pail 2 weeks ago and the recipient threw them to the dogs cuz they were full of worms...
