TownFarm Bay Saturday whiteout

Post by Reelax »

Had planned to fish out of converse Saturday before the forecast blew up with a storm. With Joe and Dave for crew members didn't want to miss this trip so we made extra effort to get out... This included plowing the driveway of 5" of fresh snow at 430am and 5 more inches at 430pm when I got home. The drive down the interstate was at 36mph and that felt fast in the blow...

We had planned to cross and hit whalons at 1st light but as we peeked the bow out from picket the north blow showed 4' plus swells so we tucked tail and headed south to townfarm. The boys were still setting up when the action began.

We ran a set of 6 rods off the otter boards. 3 rods with 2 colors of lead on the starboard side with 3 rods with 1-2 split shots on the other. At the end of the day the lead core side had 2x the releases on it, so the lead won the day.

The water Temps were from 34 (no bite) to 37.2-38 water where the fish were active. They were in the warm water flow coming out of Thorpe brook in a very localized spot... Being the only boat on the water, the fish never moved and we were able to pick away at them without moving them out all day!

Today's menu started with buttered hot pretzels, followed by some baked stuffed clams.. After a dozen more fish we closed the day with a brown sugar marinated pork tenderloin with a sweet tobasco glaze... No weight will be lost aboard REELAX....

We did see a couple pike come out when we ventured out into the middle of the :| bay too far, but NO lakers all day!!!!

Sticks and small spoons both worked.. Honorable mention goes to a black and purple spoon with white back that Dave put on the 1st set. It fired all day long along with a couple clones we put on also to match it...

Lots of Eagle damage seen on salmon this year. They really tear them up in the shallows... We spent most of today in 8-14fow.

I didn't get to frostbite much this year due to fast ice formation, but this felt like it all the way today...

Thanks for the best trip of the year so far guys... Getting the counter to 15 before noon was a BLAST!! You guys did a great job keeping the boat on the fish all day during the consistent blow. Amazing no gear was broken or lost after 8hrs in that snot!

Excellent day you had guys!!! Thanks for sending me pics as you got into ‘em Matt, it put me out there in spirit as I was pushing the white crap around to keep the all the docs and nurses from falling on their keisters at the hospitals. Pure fishing passion got Reelax out the barn and to the ramp! This is a guy who can now cherry pick good weather days during the week and fish whenever he wants. But yet, he WANTED true adventure and it paid off (thanks matt!). Rugged conditions demanded focus of driver, deck, & grill all interchangeable w crew. Think crabing sideways w boards past moorings type excitement!

Sorry Matt, we did lose gear. One good salmon got wrapped up in multiple lines and a mooring. The dual snap was trashed and had to be replaced.

Plug: Never fished w DA (top shelf) but asked how they met. He was DYP a decade ago, I was DYP a few years ago. Lesson, do DYP and you may win lotto too!
