Saturday Converse LOL

Post by Mistress »

We fished Converse yesterday and it was an LOL day from the start. Matt was at the ramp with his Reelax crew and got to witness the dockless launching of my pampered Mistress complete with my faithful mate in his waders keeping her off the beach in the wind which brought a few humorous comments from shore to kick off the LOL day. Outside of the bay we turned North and made a quick run up to turn around and set up into the wind which was out of the south at 10-15 kts with 2’ waves and occasional 3 footer but they were in even sets so not too sloppy. By 8:00 we had our first first fish aboard, a 4-5# laker which set the precedent for the rest of our trip and for the next 5 hours we reeled in one after another for a total of over 24 fish, the largest being just shy of 30” and smallest 12” along with one rogue sub legal salmon that had a 5” lamprey on it along with 5 other tiny blood suckers. All bites were no deeper than 30’ and of course in typical laker fashion the hogs ate everything we had out, pink, green, blue/silver, you name it, they ate it all like Chris Christie at his favorite pizza joint!
The day can be best described as Lots of Laughs from the start, Lots of Lumps on the troll and Lots of LAKERS! We’ll be back out in different waters on New Years day to try to get our January salmon, #22 consecutive months before the polar vortex puts us into a mini ice age and locks up the accesses….
Happy New Year to all!!

Pat - Glad to have you as a safety boat with us on Saturday. Like you, loads of lakers, but I've always said it's the Captain's decision to post or not. It was good to see you in the lot with all the gun fire as we set up!!

Fishing boats are a godsend for duck hunters with how they stimulate the lake! Thank you!
Busy last weekend of duck season with launches to the north locked, we were 1 of 3 duck boats in that little bay! I stood up and gave a hearty wave when you flew by!

It was good to have another boat out and about given the time of year and the wind we had. Not quite nautical but enough to be a major pain in the ass if anyone had a mechanical problem for sure. Matt reminded me that almost exactly a year earlier (12/30/23) we were down to Converse and had nearly identical results, tons of greasers and just ONE small salmon. Must be they go elsewhere post spawn?
Glad our launching activities helped stimulate waterfowl movement to benefit our fellow sportsmen!!
Back out tomorrow in my longtime home waters up north to kick off the new year right!
