Using live minnows for winter walleye
Re: Using live minnows for winter walleye
Good tip, now all we need are more walleyes...wish they would stock more walleye not just in Champlain but in as many lakes as possible that could support them. I could think of a bunch between Albany and the Canadian border. Back in "the day" walleye were the premier fish, yet you could catch enough to make a long trip worth it even if you didn't keep them. Problem was and still is, who wants to release a walleye if it's legal, they taste too good.

Great tip. To cold to run tip ups and tried this on deep water perch today. Worked fairly well.

Try a 3 - 4 inch hunt about 2 foot from the bottom.

Two things that could improve walleye fishing on Champlain are: open the season around May20th. and implement a slot limit; I know guys will say we don't catch that many and when we catch one we want to keep it!
But since they implement a slot limit here in Quebec the quality in numbers and sizes is really improve.
Naturally if they could put more in lakes that will help for sure.
