Fishing 411 2017 show for the Niagara Bar

Post by digitroll (ron) »

Show #7 just released for the 2017 show schedule. Was filmed one week before we arrived last May. This year will be our 16th year at the Bar this Spring.

There is some great shots of them using OR12 Offshore inline boards.

hey ron,how is the boat traffic on the bar in the spring?is it combat fishing like in mexico bay in the fall?if fishing is slow in mexico this spring like the past 2 years,we might trailer the small boat out to the bar.

Last year was the slowest trip in 16 years. We had persistent East and Northeast wind that really messed up the bite for most of the week. But...overall the guys that fished 9 of 10 days during the derby really struggled during that period. Traffic is bad on Friday heading into the last weekend of the 10 day derby and it's combat fishing just like Labor day weekend fishing Mexico. The bite was really good the week after we were there with calm and temps. in the 70's and light boat traffic.

I would recommend fishing after the derby as it's been getting more congested every year recently. More guys running copper makes it interesting with boat traffic.

There is a lot of talk of people (seasoned vets) skipping the Mexico late August fishing trip and heading to the Bar during this August period to fish the returning big salmon. Less traffic and more fish opportunities.

Lake O is on my bucket list. Do you typically troll those types of lures and/or that slow for salmon? 1.6 is lake trout speed for sure.

Springtime is great. No fleas. Spoons reign king. Some use flasher and flies and meat rigs. It's mostly a spoon bite between 40-70 ft down over deep water. Speed 2.1-2.4 on the Fish Hawk probe. It's a blast catching them on spoons with no heavy attractors. My favorite time of year to fish.
